This announcement comes at a time of unprecedented die-offs in the bayou area, huge dead zones along the coasts. You can no longer fish in many rivers and streams. The causes include runoff from agribusiness as well as the activities of oil companies and industrial polluters. Our government and regulators respond with happy talk. Companies like Monsanto hire Blackwater type operatives to protect their interests against non-cooperating farmers.

Pure water and the wild and beautiful ocean are threatened everywhere, in Africa, in US, in Siberia, Europe and now in the heretofore untouched regions of Canada. Canada has joined England in the lapdog contingent. It is not only aquatic animal life that suffers, but plant life too, which supplies us with so much free oxygen. There is evidence that water pollution is also causing visible genital malformaitions in human babies. Perhaps other things harder to spot.

The only bright spot I know in the water wars is in Bolivia where the people successfully fought off efforts to privatize their local water supply.

NOTE --

In New York we have gotten a one year moratorium on upstate fracking, which threatens our urban water supply. A small reprieve from that particular threat.

FRACKING is a whole other issue which is a serious threat to drinking water!!
