Only the Liberals can save this country.
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 10:13 AM by Saboburns
I've watched this fair place suffer and fall. I've watched open-mouthed as racism, and superstition replaced reality. I've watched the people of this fair place lie to themselves, big lies, that caused unimaginable horrors on other peoples. I've watched as ordinary folk consciously choose to ignore out culpability and guilt. I've watched as our jobs left and people live in fear, day-to-day, as they struggle to meet their families most basic needs.

Only the Liberals among us may save us now.

It has always been so, but now we face desperation.

The key to the thing is an acceptance of the truth. Forget the shining city on a hill bullshit. We're no better nor worse than any other fair places upon this Earth. But now the bill has come due. And we can't pay it this time with bullshit platitudes, our credit on AMERICAN EXCEPTIONAL ISM has run dry, petered out, bellied up. Some of us know this, many of us know this, we must convince others of this.

I am more than disappointed at the Democratic Party. I am getting pissed. Not since 1932 has this party been handed such an opportunity as it was handed in November of 2008. Yet no strides have been made, which I assess as the leaders of this fair place an admission of the bullshit and and an acceptance of truth.

And how does this relate to the Tea Party?? This morning it occurred to me that the emergence and rising of the far right radicals give permission to our own Democrats to entrench more firmly in the center, to become even more conservative than ever before. This is unacceptable. We Liberals have little to no representation in our government. We have no way to be heard.

When one compares the Democrat to the Tea Party candidate, what are we REALLY SEEING.

The answer to our problems is not some great Revolution. The answer is as it always has been. Truth, Equality and Justice meted out fairly to all. We have the framework in place already in this fair place. We must buck ourselves up and BY GOLLY use them.

1. Racism and superstition are part of our reality...
It was always there. The rule of Law, if wielded impartially, holds them at bay.

I don't think that anyone can save the country. Our empire crumbles, and our polarized politics tears us apart while a subustantial number of Americans watch TV and wait to see which side gets control.

For me,the question is what will grow from the national corpse.

2. Progress has always come from Progressives and this time our salvation depends on them
We'll also have to come to face the fact that Democrat does not equal Progressive, and the sooner the better. The government will not save us, we'll have to save ourselves.

3. Well expresses similar thoughts a lot of us share.
I think its inevitable that a grassroots Progressive movement solidifies within the half-brain dead body we now call the Democratic Party. Not a Third Party, but a dual leadership. Not the Tea Party, which is a corporate-funded front group, but a real insurgency.

Most of the existing Democratic elites (with some wonderful exceptions, paging Dr. Dean, pick up the White Courtesy Phone) have failed, squandered an historic opportunity, yet again - time to push the Blue Dogs and Inside the Beltway DLC quants and Clinton-era triangulators aside.

Keep on keepin' on.

A People's history of the United States 1492-Present. An Epiphany. I highly recommend it as a primer of what we progressives need to do. I think we are way past voting for the "change thing" and need to proceed to civil ... and activism. (Otherwise we as a nation are simply being played)

5. Could you be specific . . .
. . . Congressional majorities for a number of years, White House for 18 months. What's your complaint and recommendation? Please be specific on what you would like to have seen and what you would like to see.

6. Isaiah 32...5-8
5 The vile person shall be no more called a liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.
