Why we should not let the government monkey with SS under the guise of “reducing the deficit"
Have you ever lived with a someone who had a substance abuse problem? Drugs and/or alcohol?

If so, you know somebody like that can go through money faster than crap goes through a goose.

You know that if you save money on groceries, clothes, other necessities….whatever you save is that much more for the other person to throw away, if that other person gets their hands on the money.

That’s how it is with government…whatever it saves on SS (or any program that benefits the average person)…is just that much more money to throw away, usually on the military-industrial complex.

1. Whatever government saves on SS will help fund the continued tax cuts for the uber-wealthy: now
isn't this some great country or what for what other industrialized nation on the face of the earth would do this with such relish and aplomb? ;)

2. The public must make it painful for the suggestion to move forward.
Then they will have to look to cut elsewhere, like war or the ridiculously low tax rate on capital gains or the payroll deduction cap (the so-called rich man's tax credit). If we expect anyone in the current government to simply be the protector of SS for us, we will lose SS. Support for SS comes from the people and no where else.

Imagine if this were France and SS cuts were being discussed with seriousness. Mass demonstrations, maybe even riots would occur. The conversation would be cut short. That is how we should respond.

Will we?

3. yes
We tend to react rather than act.

When they propose to keep the wars going at the expense of SS we will react.

Problem is they act covertly. It has worked well for them for sometime.
We are but mushrooms to the elite. Mushrooms that bleed money for them to spend.
