I see O'Donnell's win as a warning...
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 08:31 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
If she can do it, maybe Sarah Palin and her followers can too...

We talk about how much we want the teabaggers to win, because defeating them is going to be easy...

Be careful what you wish for, folks...

She won her primary, and this gives her validation. We need to take that away from her, and pronto.

This is a major wake-up call, IMHO...

1. Hey Peggy...so you see it as a possible momentum-gainer for them?
hmmm...I suppose you're right!

5. I can see that happening, if we don't act to stop her...
We cannot take anything for granted.

I wonder if they can bring it to our side and get a win.

6. This was a party primary, not the general election.
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 08:37 PM by Electric Monk
Delaware is a Dem seat in November.

8. I think you're probably right...
My point is not to take that for granted. We need to work as though there were a real chance we could lose.

That's all.

11. Absolutely we should never take any election for granted.
At the same time among our own people we should be telling them that the pundits are only telling their listeners what the pundits want to tell us.

If we need to tell anyone. Let them know that 2010 is not like 1994 or any other mid term election. The Republican Party was never fractured in those elections as they are in 2010.

7. Just remember that Delaware is a closed primary
The only people that could vote for her is republicans.

Castle is the only republican in the last decade to win statewide elections. He won because he is respected by everyone in this state including independents and moderate democrats.

Those Independents and moderate democrats will not vote for O'Donnell.

There's still a battle to be fought. But at least our side can now be seen as at least reasonable by moderate voters.

19. Preach on CaliforniaPeggy
The Republicon Party in its present, and likely future state, is a menace. We have to get our voters energized so we can lay the smackdown on those loons. Only 7 weeks to go. What will each of you do to support President Obama and Democrats?

PPP Polls: O'Donnell's fav/unfav is 29/50; Only 31% of DE voters think CO is fit to hold office

20. No.. .it means she can win a race in which ONLY Republicans get to vote

Be careful extrapolating primary victories to the general election.

Kendrick Meek won a primary pretty handily too... he's going to come in third in the general.

Winning a primary does NOT give anyone "validation"... especially a closed primary.

We absolute want... in every single case... for the most rightwing nutjob to win every Republican primary.

Every. Single. One.

27. We should fight like hell no matter who wins the GOP primaries...
....but we're much better off when they nominate people who won't be able to pull away many Independent or Democratic voters.

Is the GOP Party of that state nominating a candidate, this has nothing to do with what will happen this November, when Independents and Democrats vote as well.

24. They are turning their party in the direction they want it to go, much like many here
want to turn the Democratic Party in a more progressive direction. That would not be immediately successful either and would have Republicans applauding the choice of Liberal Democrats who they believe would be easy pickings in the general election.

Sometimes big things have small beginnings.

\

44% of Castle supporters stated they would not support O'donnell

She will not get independent votes and she will get the Democrats mad in Delaware.

This is a good sign not a bad sign.

Just like Nevada the Tea Party has just given the Democrats another seat.

31. Not in Delaware! In Alabama? Yes. In Florida? Yes. In Kentucky? Maybe. But NOT in Delaware!
Even the Republicans are moderate. The problem is that the crazies came out to vote today, but apparently, the GOP establishment will not support O'Donnell. It's now being reported that the Republican Establishment will concede Delaware. They understand that she cannot beat the Democrat, Chris Coors, who is also pretty popular in that state.

This one is all over.

We've now held this seat. The great thing is, it was pretty much essential the Republicans win this if they had any hopes of a Senate takeover.

We won't even have to spend money here.
