Oil And Natural Resources
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, I’ve decided to give ya’ll an unhappycamper summary of the article and a link to the OP. To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.

To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

(This space reserved for a legally correct snark dump.) It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: The USMC has decided that Marines should know the local cultures. If you look at those 17 global regions:

* We have all of Africa covered.
* We have most of the Gulf states covered.
* We have Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and some of South America covered.

It almost appears as if we're positioning our new battlefields of the 21st century.

A Philippine Marine learns about the M16 A4 service rifle from a Marine with Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, on March 13 in the Philippines. Because Marines encounter nationalities and cultures from across the globe, the Marine Corps plans to roll out a new cultural training program.

The Regional, Culture, and Language Familiarization Program was created by the Marine Corps Center for Advanced Operational and Cultural Learning at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. Eventually, officers and enlisted Marines will be assigned to one of 17 global regions of study, which they will focus on for the duration of their careers, according to Marine Administrative Message 468/10.
