Opinions on supporting so called.., "Blue Dogs"
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 04:34 PM by Stuart G
What do you think. I got a few on my list.
They can win, but they need support, and they are prime targets of Rove/ Koch crowd
They organize with us, may not vote with us all the time, on all the issues I/we want
.. but we control the house.
So? Send some money to them? Your opinions ??

2. I'm against them.
Yet, needless to say, as my Rep. is Ike Skelton, there are few alternatives. I've asked, begged for the local Dems to get a new candidate to no avail.

I will vote for him, the alternative is a Tea-Bagger, and an idiot(do I repeat myself?).

4. How's the campaign going?
I'm not a big Skelton fan but am amazed that a rep who has brought that much pork back to his district is in trouble.

And yes, I'd vote for him over a teabagger every time.

7. The worst Blue Dog votes with Dems 83% of the time. the BEST Rep 23%
That 60% is a pretty damn lot of "sheep's clothing". It actually kind of looks like a difference to me.

There is a difference, and I appreciate this short discussion.
That difference may why we control the House. It is worth something..

15. You know, I always hate statistical fig leaves like that.
THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY MATTERS IS WHETHER
THE BLUE DOGS SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC POSITIONS ON
THE HARD ISSUES.

And they don't; on the hard issues, they support
Republican positions and the rest of the Democrats
have to moderate their positions far, far towards
the Republican position in order to secure the votes
of those damned Blue Dogs.

If it weren't for them, the rest of the Democrats
could support REAL DEMOCRATIC POSITIONS and people
would understand what are the REAL DEMOCRATIC
POSITIONS. But because of the Blue Dogs, nobody
knows anymore what the Democrats actually stand
for.

16. Prove it
Show me when a majority of Blue Dogs voted against a Dem position on a "hard issue".

17. You entirely missed my point.
In order to appease the Blue Dogs, the Democratic
mainstream routinely brings forward proposals that
any sane person would deem to be Republican in
nature, not Democratic.

And then, sure, the Blue Dogs vote for the proposal
'cause it is essentially Republican. And people like
you then report that the Blue Dogs are better than
Republicans because they vote with the Democrats,
even though the Democrats eviscerated themselves
to gain those Blue Dig votes.

I think we'd be better off bringing forward ACTUAL
DEMOCRATIC PROPOSALS; that way, people would
at least understand what real Democrats stand for.
As it is, we look more and more LIKE Republicans.

5. I find myself in this position. Support is multifaceted.
My Rep is a self-proclaimed Blue Dog, she was willing to vote against health care bill because of her anti-abortion stand. She was close to stopping the whole bill over this item.

I got a call asking me to make phone calls for her campaign. I told them I would not, and told them that this was the reason. They asked me if I was pro-choice and that was my concern. I said that was not the issue, my problem was that she was willing to chuck the whole bill and give the Repubs a major win and that was not acceptable to me.

So obviously I am not willing to work for her campaign. I have not sent her money. But I will vote for her, and that is all they will get from me. My choices are vote for her, vote for a super RW car salesman, or not vote in this race and let the RWer win. I just hope that she does not take my vote as an endorsement of her actions.

6. It depends if you would prefer to have the GOP take the house and senate
if you prefer to have the GOP in charge - then I would not support the Blue dogs

9. Even after the experience of the last two years, do you really believe Democrats control the Senate?
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 06:20 PM by Tesha
Republicans, through their allies the Blue Dog
"Democrats" and Joe Lieberman, already control
the Senate.

And the Blue Dogs completely poison the message
of the rest of the Democratic Party.

12. Depends on the state
When we are talking Kentucky or Nebraska, face it, Blue Dogs is the best we can get, at least better than Repukes.

The result of Dean's 50 state strategy. Blue Dogs rather than Repukes.
