They are whipping up this stupid pastor to the point that
extreme Muslims will threaten him and ReTHUGS can spew their anti-Muslim rhetoric right up to election day.

It was all planned.

1. And to hide the FACT that the Republican polling advantage is gone.
Disappeared, if it ever existed in the first place. The numbers are down, so--quick!--a distraction!

Also, it's in Florida where we're likely to capture the governor's seat and have a shot at the Senate seat. I bet Rick Scott and Marco Rube-io are running anti-Muslim spots before it's over.

2. It's also removing possibility of discussion about anything else,
and the rethugs are very weak on 'anything else'.

Did you hear the argument on am schmo w/Buchanan? If the Prez takes action against Jones and the Constitution, no rethug will fault him. FAT CHANCE of that. What a load.

3. I am not watching Joe Scum today
And you're right - they have nothing to run on so why not whip up the fear factor.

4. Actually, it's been pretty good today
They led with the San Bruno pipeline explosion and fire.

The nutjob pastor story has been entertaining, with Pat Buchanan and Donny Deutch calling for the President to send U.S. Marshals to arrest him (for the sake of the troops), over Mika's objections.

Buchanan seems to think he's still in the Nixon WH. He said Obama should just tell the AG he's making the arrest, and order the AG to work out the legal details.

Trump is on the phone now with Mika on his stunt offer to buy the Park51 property (Mika strongly disagrees with him).

7. Actually, it has been a good show today (Joe not there helps).
A really good discussion about 1st amendment rights vs. "dangerous" speech.

I'm beginning to warm up to Jon Meacham...he was reasonable...

9. Joe's absence went over my head, LOL, but that explains it
I was juggling my attention between MoJo, DU and a live feed on the San Bruno fire--and didn't even miss Joe!

He's been especially sloppy and unprofessional lately, with lots of interrupting, brow-beating and snark. Yesterday he sank to another low with his mocking of childhood obesity stories--a favorite cause of Mika's.

Mika has a lot of detractors, but it'd be a much better show if it was just "Morning Mika."

6. The Toady Show interviewed that asshole this morning
Way to give that clown more attention, NBC! Disgusting. Although, I must say, parts of it were entertaining. Meridith Viera actually got on his case somewhat and asked a few tough questions. They resulted in dead air space, just before he started spewing his usual lies and hate. Got to give Meridith some credit for exposing the guy for the charlatan that he is.

13. Played Like A Violin...
And with the conplicity of a corporate media who is stuck in their false equivelency game. Somehow this "controversy" got tied into the "9/11 Mosque"...how conveenient! Damn straight it was planned with a lot of astroturfing that serves the GOOP and lets the corporate media turn this into the circus its become.

We're seeing the GOOP stripped to its bare components...hate and deception. It's all they have to run on and the PTB see the diversions and media manipulation as a key to their strategery. It's all negative all the time and feeds into the general frustration many have right now and amplifies it beyond proportion.

The problem is you can't fight a lie with the truth anymore...as the media will play the lie 500 times and barely mention the retraction. They see division as a cash cow...making billions from the many "close" races and the third parties (such as the American Petroleum Institute and the Koch cabal) in buying tons of time to spread their lies and distortions. The bottom line always wins.

:hi:

14. The point is: he has the constitutional right to do it
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-20016003-10391695.html

http://www.aclufl.org/news_events/?action=viewRelease&emailAlertID=3856

As the above ACLU op-ed points out:

"Those of us who will use freedom of speech to condemn the burning of Qurans and the distressing intolerance that will be on display on September 11th also need to protect the constitutional right to engage in hateful and bigoted speech. The legal principles that protect the Dove World's freedom of speech, as ugly and intolerant as it will be, also protect freedom of speech for everyone else. Weaken it for them, and we weaken it for everyone."

17. I'm sure we all know this already, but...
it does bear repeating...

With rights come responsibilities

The sad thing is, it's pretty likely that HE won't be the one to have to pay the price, or take responsibility, for his "right".

Just because people have the right to do something, that doesn't mean it's the smartest thing in the world to do.

:(

15. On NPR radio yesterday: he has 10-12 people in his congregation
I only heard part of the radio show (I was driving and I'm not sure what show it was, or even the name of the guest who was speaking), but whoever it was said his congregation has only 10-12 members.

Why are we giving these few wackos so much attention?
