1994 and 2010 .. will the democrats in the senate EVER learn???
In both years a newly elected democratic president and a democratic congress faced the same situation.. A republican senate that milked the closure rule for all it was worth. They denied allowing a vote on a high percentage of bills that the president and most of the Congress agreed on. With the help of the media ( most of whom simply refused to see WHO was holding up action) the pubic blamed the democrats and threw them out.. I hope if the democrats can hold the senate the 1st thing they do is toss this undemocratic rule out once and for all.. At the start of new senate session it only takes 51 votes to get rid of this rule.. I know some are worried that when the republicans gain control of the senate they will allow horrible bills to pass that the democrats will not be able to stop.. But this fear is unfounded for 2 reasons.. most the truly bad stuff is proposed by the senate republicans as red meat for there conservative base... They KNOW the Democrats will invoke closure to stop it.. and IF any of their stuff DOES pass.. the public will soon see what horrible law it is and put the Democrats back in charge to get rid of the truly ugly bills.. This is the ONLY way we are going to get any truly good laws in place to help the poor and restrain the truly greedy.. If not.. just wait till 2026 and watch it all happen again
1. And equal question is will voters ever learn......?
