35. Question on ABA report that Rep. Lee cited
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 01:27 PM by suffragette
Been sick and busy so doing a lot of catching up.
The segment wit Barbara Lee went by quickly. She brought up an ABA report about the signing statements. Love the way she kept them to a Yes or No answer.
Went to google and found this link to what looks to be that report here: http://www.abanet.org/op/signingstatements/
Opened and read just the beginning.

"RESOLVED, That the American Bar Association opposes, as contrary 1 to the rule of law
2 and our constitutional system of separation of powers, the issuance of presidential signing
3 statements that claim the authority or state the intention to disregard or decline to enforce all or
4 part of a law the President has signed, or to interpret such a law in a manner inconsistent with the
clear intent of Congress;"

Sounds good.

Oops. Edited to add the question. Is this waht Rep. Lee was referring to?

91. A vote of no confidence for one thing ..... and under a Parliamentarian
system Bush probably would be gone ..... but with the hand we are delt here .... his 'enablers' on this committee today, and his 'enabler' witnesses argued in the end that yea these signing statements serve no purpose, don't change the law passed by the legislature .... BUT the laws need to be interpreted to the rest of the Executive branch under the President so they can understand what the law says. Yea the 'My Pet Goat' guy gets to be not just the decider, but the 'interpreter' too .... goobeldy goobaldy b.s. bla bla bla ... Oh but none of this signing statement crap is Constitutional by the way, and round and round we go! Long live the King huh? sigh ... keep the faith and Peace.
