Glenn Beck Admits Lying:'I Thought It Would Be A Little Easier'
'I Thought It Would Be A Little Easier' (VIDEO)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/03/glenn-beck-admits-lying-i_n_704958.html

After being called on a white lie he told during his Restoring Honor rally, Glenn Beck admitted Thursday that he stretched the truth because he "thought it would be a little easier."

Beck had claimed that he held George Washington's handwritten first Inaugural Address in his hands at the National Archives, but a spokeswoman at the institution said he did no such thing. Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz and others called him out for the fabrication.

Thursday on his radio show, Beck copped to the lie.

"I thought it would be a little easier in the speech," Beck said, than to go into the following elaborate explanation (via Mediaite):

1. "An elaborate explanation"
Instead of "I held George Washington's handwritten first Inaugural Address", he would have said, "I saw George Washington's handwritten first Inaugural Address." Pretty elaborate and complicated, that; would have totally bamboozled his half-wit followers for sure.

I also note that the Rude Pundit pretty expertly skewered this bit of personal puffery by Beck. Apparently during his Mini-Nuremberg Rally, Beck made much of having personally handled the document, as if doing so conferred some mystic connection to him and his message. Beck's lie wasn't just some shortcut to a larger point, it was the point.

11. Exactly what I thought when I read it. "when I looked at the document".
The lie was intentional of course. He couldn't resist during his frenzied nationalistic tale. He runs on emotion like Palin and the other nitwits. Facts don't count. Just emotion.

2. He's still lying - has squat to do with Sandy Berger
Yesterday I went to the National Archives, and they opened up the vault, and they put on their gloves and then they put it on a tray. They wheeled it over and it's all in this hard plastic and you're sitting down at a table and you can't, because of Sandy Berger, I had a long conversation with him about this, you can't actually touch any of the documents, these are very very rare. So what they do, they have it in this plastic thing and they hold them right in front of you, you can't touch them but then you can say 'can you turn it over,' and then they turn it over for you and then you look at it. I thought it was a little clumsy to explain it that way.

It's because it's a national treasure historical document you numbnuts - that's why they didn't let you handle!

4. There were more lies in that sermon. Like when he claimed to put $20 in the plate at church
what he knows that no one (except mormons) knows is that they don't pass the plate at his church.

Fucking lying piece of scum.

10. Even if it was true
He's damn cheap, Mormons are supposed to tithe 10%.

Unless it was fast sunday, and well... I don't think he's missed a meal.

7. Dishonest, yes

But copping to poetic license in that speech isn't going to be very persuasive to a Beckhead.

It's almost like saying Joe Biden "lied" when he said he could hear dinner conversations while riding Amtrak, although that is obviously a poetic flourish.
