Edited on Wed May-16-07 11:31 PM by Horse with no Name
What good is subpoena power if you refuse to follow through the procedure? What good are they if people ignore them and you just wring your hands?
What good are investigations if you refuse to prosecute the ones who break the rules?
What good is the Constitution if you omit the part about impeaching.

At this point, with so many impeachable offenses...the ONLY thing on the table should be impeachment.
If we don't do that, we can kiss this country goodbye--if it's not too late already.

2. The unwillingness to challenge is astounding.
Why is Rice not arrested for contempt of congress?

3. I know
Why go through the motions of issuing a subpoena if they don't mean it?
They are definitely neutering themselves.

4. I'll take your first question
"What good is subpoena power if you refuse to follow through the procedure?"

Although I definitely share your frustration, I think I have an answer to that one. I'm guessing that the Democrats are hoping that approving subpoenas will goad the Rethugs into compliance. Of course, that assumes an alert and tenacious mass media. (Oops! Never mind.) The problem with actually serving those subpoenas is that it will almost certainly spark a "Constitutional crisis," a court battle that will ultimately be settled by the SCOTUS, which, given its Federalist Society predilections, is unlikely to come out on the side of democracy.

5. Logical answers are: Skull & Bones, Illuminati, Bohemian Grove...
There seems to be a general consensus in the press and among politicians that impeachment just ain't gonna happen. Yet Clinton got impeached on the flimsiest of charges, so it's not that it CAN'T be done, it's that it WON'T be done.

But why, why why?

Perhaps there really is something to the idea that there are people who really ARE above the law, who will never be called to account for anything evil they do -- because they are protected by their complicit and powerful friends.

7. Well, you see, it's all about money,
And public perceptions, as in management of.

The more Waxman investigates, the more money seems to be going to Democratic coffers. Classic shakedown strategy. Squeeze till the coins fall out.

Hurrah. Best government money can buy.
