DPS defrauded of $150K for jewelry, purses, mortgage payments

Detroit -- Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy announced felony charges today against a two former Detroit Public Schools employees and a Detroit cop in an alleged embezzlement that defrauded the district of nearly $150,000 for personal home improvements, mortgage payments, purses and jewelry.

Charged are: Gwendolyn Miller, 58, of Detroit, and a former principal of Randolph Career and Technical Center; Eugenia Holimon, 47, of Detroit, and a former Randolph accountant, and Holimon's friend, Robert Gibson, 57, of Farmington Hills, a police officer for more than three decades. Also charged was Holimon's son, Eric, 22, of Detroit.

The charges conclude a months-long investigation that started with the district's Office of Inspector General. The investigation suggested the former Randolph employees were using school funds for personal purchases, such as home improvements.

"A principal of a school is supposed to be not only its educational leader, but its moral and ethical center," Worthy said. "A police officer is sworn to uphold the law. We trust our accountants to guard finances ethically
