So I watched some of Beck's rally ...
I listened to some of the comments by the talking heads, I read a few blogs, I even followed some posts on Twitter and I still can't figure out two things:

Who is he trying to reclaim the civil rights movement from and what honor is he trying to restore?

8. Wouldn't you be proud to be a descendent of Bull Connor...
:eyes: Of course there were many more like him then and ARE today many more in the TeaBagger crowd.

17. You're right.
It made no sense, it wasn't newsworthy and yet the rantings of an egomaniac were on the TV, being broadcast as news. Very disturbing. :(

9. I always thought that was Southern (confederate) rhetoric
as in "the south will rise again"... but, it does make sense that Beck would co-opt this language for the "dog whistle" crowd...

18. That's true about Beck and his followers.
None of them were concerned about "taking their country back" when Bush* trampled the constitution, but as soon as Obama was sworn in, they began screaming about losing their freedoms. :eyes:

:toast:

I didn't watch the whole thing. That would have made me insane, LOL! The bits I saw were enough for me. I thought there would be some kind of political message, but it seemed more like a weird sermon. I checked out Twitter and the blogs just to see if I was missing the point of the rally. Apparently not. Those that agreed with his anger didn't seem to know exactly what they were angry about. Those that disagreed with him didn't care what he was angry about, they just thought he was crazy.

And yet, there he was on the TV, being covered by "news" channels as if he was saying something important. :eyes:

edited for clarity :-)
