News Reports are saying "Tens of thousands" showed up for Beck-O-Rama - know what that means?
If the news services are reporting "tens of thousands" showed up what it means is that not even 100,000 of the expected 300,000 came. Not even a third the anticipated crowd.

6. Based on the picture that's been posted here.
I think tens of thousands is an understatement. You don't spill over into the side areas with only tens of thousands.

8. Possibly
Although, having been there, it's kind of tricky to tell overhead without multiple angles. Those rows of trees conceal a lot of ground space for people... especially to the right of the pool (as seen from the perspective in the previous picture.) You can see, as you get closer, that people are out to the water on the right. I wouldn't be surprised if the official estimate ended up being over 100K.

10. Hmm...I went to a Black Panther-sponsored event there in 1970
that was much more crowded than that--so crowded that it was scary because it was hard to move and impossible to get out of the crowd. And it was surrounded by police so you couldn't spill out into the street. That was not regarded as a large rally, at the time. I don't even remember it being reported.

I suspect I'll wait a long time for that, likely forever.

15. Don't be surprised if, like Fox has done in the past, they keep
showing some other better attended rally as this one and claim higher numbers. Truth isn't exactly their trademark.

16. I was there in Jan of 2007
There were 750,000 in that march. I know that for sure because a friend was helping the organizers and I was talking to her when the head of security came by to report the official count.

Hours later when we got back to our hotel room we turned on the TV and Fox reported hundreds and CNN said thousands. Didn't catch any coverage on MSNBC. Local news just reported a march and didn't give a number.

24. ABC said "hundreds of thousands". . .hahahahaha.
From the pictures, I can tell that this event was not as large as the primary national gay rights marches on Washington. And the gays didn't have a television network, radio program and a daily public figure given free air time to advertise their events.

28. Many years ago I was at an outside concert with 400,000 people...
estimated from an aerial photograph in the local newspaper.

Using that as a reference, I would say there were about 300,000 people at yesterday's event, if the photos we have seen are for real. That is the only reference I have.

And I would say about a third of those came to see Palin, about a third came to see Beck, and about a third thought they were coming to see something that did not happen...
