I've given up - its too draining and useless.....

I'm giving up on politics... the liberal vs. conservative battle is too exhausting.

The so-called liberal dems are way too conservative for me. They are just as beholden to
the corporate interests as the Rethugs. I see no hope there. ...

And the Rethugs, well they are downright satanic to me, their evil and incredibly stupid
attitueds/policies make it impossible to even discuss with...

I am still interested however in the overall political scene, but have given up on getting into
the details.... and guess what, I find myself a happier person these days!!

Anyone else there too?

16. Was an old guy....
small time career criminal. Late in life he decides on one last score and holds up a bank. He gets caught. Jail, court, guilty and sentencing. The judge looks over his record and gives him 99 years.

He's beside himself, says "Judge, I'm 65 years old, how can ya ask me to do 99 years?"

The judge says, "Do what you can."

2. Can't say I blame you, but...
I think that's what the Republicans are counting on. SOOOOO many scandals, etc....that they hope the average American just says "fuck it" and doesn't pay attention anymore. When that happens, they're free to do what they want.

4. Yeah, but come on.... What have the dems done?
There aren't even ANY investigations into this criminal administration.

They have impeachment off the table, and still think the middle road is the way to go!

Its too maddening !

3. Been there, came back.
Take a break. You deserve it, and you'll be no help to anyone if you flame out.

Step away. You care too much to quit, and you won't, but you won't be much of anything if you break. Get some rest, find some distance. You'll be back, and we'll be here.

25. Thanks... your words are VERY comforting !

I guess for me, what disturbs me the most.. is that it seems as though a large
number of Americans (not a majority..but close)... seem to me, to be so self-centered, and
self-important... that they just don't seem to care about what is REALLY happening !!

6. Take a break and come back.
That's what I did, anyway, and it worked for me. By the way, as I left, I made a very dear friend. She saw my "exit thread," here at DU, and she became my biggest supporter, in terms of helping me feel okay about stepping back, temporarily. To this day, we are great friends, and I highly value her friendship and wisdom.

8. Take a break, I did and it helped.
you know too much which you can never really escape.

Seems at sometimes that many of us feel
like Cypher at times

Cypher: I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here: Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?

Cypher: You know, I know this steak doesn't exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize?

Cypher: Ignorance is bliss.

The Matrix......

Don't be like Cypher, just take a break.

Are you sure this was the right place for you to be at to begin with?

There are some fringe sites out there if you look around I am sure.

Good luck.

13. I've been there before.
and am feeling that way again. It's not so much the Dems and lobbyists that frustrate me, but how hard it is to get decent election reform through. I really wish I had been wrong about *'s second term, but it was worse than even I had imagined. I was slightly happier when I took a long break from DU during the SCOTUS confirmations, but I still knew something was wrong and that the Repubs on the committe probably would have confirmed a frog as long as * nominated it. IMO, the only reason Miers didn't make it up there is because she was a woman.

14. I've been going around and around...
and where I'm at right now...is that it is still us vs. them..but the us and the them have become more defined. The us is the people of the world, while the them is the upper tier of the corporate/military/ and political hierarchy world-wide. I have convinced myself that knowledge of the problem is worth something. I just don't know what. And, I wonder if there is any definitive truth. It seems the military, the government and the corporations have worked together like hand and glove, sometimes interchangeably, for a very long time. There are no parameters where one starts and another begins. The effort needed to understand the tiniest piece of the puzzle is a mind-bending experience. I just can not comprehend it all. So...I too have backed away from the insanity of the superficial political drama. It only serves to rattle my cage.

But Rome wasnt built in a day......Waxman/Conyers and Leahy are leading the way
along with Feingold and a few others.
Things take time, the Dems have only been in the majority for 5months now, they have
done alot, but with this administration it will take at least 10years to fix everything
and get to the bottom of things.
Never give up

27. I Don't Find It Useless, Though I Do Find It Exhausting. Take A Well Deserved Break And Appreciate
life outside of the nitty gritty political details. You'll feel refreshed and back with your nose in the mix in no time! Then when things get too much again, just take some time again.

I don't think it's so much about giving up as it is about hitting pause. Every one of us here can hit pause from time to time and the world ain't gonna stop spinnin. In fact, it's probably a necessity to do so from time to time. Just remember the pause button ain't a stop button nor does it need to be.
