Just got off the phone with the WH about Simpson and his BS
Just to pass this on --

DON'T just call. I was advised to email the White House, and of course I asked if they really actually read any of the emails and was told that they very much DO read them.

So get over to whitehouse.gov and let them know that Simpson had to go! Flood them with emails.

I told them Obama doesn't care, the Dems don't care, and the repukes don't, they are all telling me to give up and die. She said not to feel that way please. I said that is what I am hearing because they don't care about seniors. I also said that probably Obama does not hear a word I am saying, she said he does because he reads the tapes at the end of the day. She said do not let one person who made a comment get to you.

17. Damn it no American should have to feel this way but look how many have little choice but to
Seniors present and future left behind.

Gays told to get in the corner and be quiet least the boogie man come.

99er's thrown in the garbage.

Poverty a non issue even as it grows like a weed and even kicked in the teeth as food stamps are being used as a general fund.

The American middle class being dismantled.

Our teachers vilified and used as a punching bag.

Traditional Democrats have no seats at the table and are expected to be ca$h cows and loyal foot soldiers for an agenda we cannot follow.

The environment just flat shit on, untold sea life destroyed and swept under the rug to protect corporate interests and bad energy policy deals.

Advocates for sane health care policy made a mockery of and even thrown in jail.

Civil liberties just absolutely violated six different ways to Sunday.

Peace a mockery.

This is evil and wrong.

18. I voted for Hillary in the primary looks like I was the one who was correct.
Bet she wouldn't take the s**t from the republicans and cave to them that Obama has. Bet she would kick butt and take names. She is a fighter. Obama seems not to be. And that is his main problem. He is not a fighter and when he does get off the couch and fight it is for the wrong things, that benefit the republicans.

24. Hillary would have done the exact same thing
SS is on the agenda of the people who actually run this country. It is a huge fund and they have been trying to get their hands on it for a long time. Bush tried and failed, now they thought they could slip it by with Democrat, didn't matter which one.

Hillary is not a fighter either. She voted for the War in Iraq because she knew that the Powers behind this country's government wanted a war, so she caved. And that is why I did not support her. Or anyone who voted for that illegal war.

Apologies after the fact are worthless. I want people who get it right the first time, like Sen. Byrd and Kucinich eg. I ended up supporting Obama, but only because of a very few differences such as the war vote which he was not there to be involved in, and his oppostion to Mandated Insurance and Commissions to steal SS and on Offshore drilling.

We were fooled, they are all the same. No one even makes it the primaries unless they've already let it be known that they have the correct position on all these issues.

29. Hillary is part of the crew with an almost verbatim belief system the difference is style
Sure she'd be more confrontational but just as complicit with the same ideology and hackery all around.

What we got on the aggregate is I really don't believe Hillary would stupidly go after teachers in such a hamfisted fashion but probably would be even appalling less willing to regulate than Barack.

Hillary might feel less demoralizing which has merit but these same jacked up neolib supply siders would be all over the place.

Even Rahm would be less gag worthy than Penn and less inept than say wacky Terry.

Obama is disappointing because in many important ways he is too much like Hillary rather than not enough.

I guess it doesn't matter who was "right" because about everybody is wrong.

23. Done: Today's e-mail:
Ref: Alan Simpson

Dear Mr. President;

If I, as an employee of a private company, went out of my way to insult the customers (and stockholders), I wouldn't even be offered the option of issuing an apology -- my butt would be fired before you could say "privatization."

So ex-Senator Simpson (who should be very familiar with sucking at the public teat) has now "apologized." That's nice. And now that we all know EXACTLY where he's coming from, it makes it easier to decide how much weight to give to any commission recommendations.

Personally, though, I don't want to hear his "apology." I want a nice, short statement on how he is obliged to resign his co-chairmanship (to "spend more time with his family," naturally).

Barring that, I can be just as cold-hearted as him and just fire his wrinkled keister outright.

Given his previous statements and his latest immature blatherings, he has no place within ten miles of recommending ANYTHING that effects Social Security (which, by the way, all of us "greedy old geezers" paid into all of our working lives -- unlike Mr. Born-Rich Simpson with his Congressional Pension).

Anyway, though, I digress. The point is: Apology NOT accepted, Mr. Simpson. As far as I'm concerned, in my best Donald Trump voice, "You're fired. Pack up your desk and hit the road."

He's got to go, sir.

(Take this with as many grains of salt as necessary. Thanks for listening.)

Okay, I think there's a misspelled word or two, but it finally wraps back around to the point. No extra charge for the gratuitous insults about Senator Wrinkled Keister's wrinkled keister. The President's from Chicago. I'm sure he's heard (and used) a lot worse.

Mr. President.

Please take Alan Simpson off of the SS commission. If you really want to see positive results in the upcoming election, stand by social security. The obvious fix for SS is to raise/eliminate the cap. To cut benefits or raise the age limits is unfair to people like me who has paid into it since I was thirteen. Many years I paid the full amount as my income went over the cap. So, if you want to insure the election(s) stand by SS, raise or remove the cap, and FIRE Alan Simpson. He is vulgar and out of touch.

Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 02:20 PM by MilesColtrane
Dear President Obama,

I am deeply disturbed by the recent comment made by the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform's co-chairman, Alan Simpson.

Setting aside whether the comment was rude or not, it displays a hostility toward Social Security and toward those who rely on it now and in the future.

This comment reflects a cavalier attitude toward the economic challenges facing many American families.

I, and many more, I believe, have lost faith that former Senator Simpson can be objective in his role on the Commission, and I urge you to ask for his resignation.

Respectfully,

MilesColtrane

Dear President Obama,

I am deeply disturbed by Alan Simpson's appalling comment.

It displays a hostility toward the New Deal's Social Security Trust Fund which belongs to the American people.

I don't urge you to merely request Simpson's resignation; I urge you to Dissolve this Commission altogether, President Obama, before it ruins your legacy, the Democratic party’s most reliable brand, and any possibility of protecting the people from an ongoing economic war against us.

Respectfully,

Catherina -

47. My Letter
Dear Mr. President,

I want to express my extreme displeasure at Alan Simpson's remarks. I strongly urge you to fire him and make a real stand on Social Security.

The fact is, there isn't a problem with SS, and I think that the only adjustment that should be made is raising the income cap on contributions. I also think that it makes more sense to lower the retirement age, to stimulate jobs for younger workers. This can easily be done by raising the income cap.

Please, Mr. President, fire Mr. Simpson for his appalling comments about seniors and take a true Democratic stand to strengthen SS.

Respectfully,

oxy

Since the day George W. Bush entered the White House & rubbed his "mandate" in our faces, we Democrats can't seem to find our way out of the bottom of the heap. Please don't allow the Republicans to bully their way into taking away our Social Security. Please stand up to them -- & firmly; the vast majority of the country would applaud you.

51. Here's mine
Dear Mr. President:

You need to fire Senator Simpson from the fiscal commission immediately. A man who collects monthly checks from the government, and who has done so since 1964, has no business accusing America's retirees and disabled of sucking at the tit of government. He's a 79-year old man, but he has all the gravitas and dignity of a much younger man, probably a middle schooler. Please don't be fooled into believing that the acceptance of Simpson's apology on the part of the administration is adequate, because it's not: the people Simpson actually insulted were the Social Security beneficiaries, folks who worked hard, played by the rules, and deserve to be treated with respect.

In all fairness, Simpson was never a good choice in the first place, because he helped to create the debt we face today while serving as a Senator: if he couldn't find a way to balance the books during his time in the Senate, why is he expected to be able to do so now?

A related question on the subject of protocol in addressing the president: is it permissible to use the word "tit?" Or is it only permissible if we're talking about the elderly and disabled who are "sucking on tits?" If it's somehow inappropriate for a citizen to do in an e-mail to the White House, why is it appropriate for Senator Simpson to do, especially when referring to the folks who have made America the country it is today?

Tits a shame you haven't fired Senator Simpson already.

My family have been in business together for just short of 20 years. Every month, I make our 941 employer tax deposit.

Some months I'm late because cash flow doesn't quite meet the deadline. When I pay the resulting penalty, I tell myself I'm helping to pay off some of our country's enormous debt.

Each month I fill in the amount to be applied for income taxes withheld, Medicare and Social Security. Since we are essentially self-employed, we pay both the employee and the employer portions of the taxes. That's the American way. I get it.

And I have always expected those monies to purchase some sense of ... security ... at the end of our careers. Alan Simpson's distasteful and offensive remarks make it clear that I may have been bilked. I have read that the White House has accepted his apology. I do not. I am offended. I am offended both by his remarks and by the fact that the covenant between me and my government is not a contract, but rather a bargaining chip.

So I am asking you for two things.
Please demand Alan Simpson's resignation.
Please honor the covenant.

Thank you.

69. They don't care

I spent months on the phone during the health insurance reform debacle, and even though public sentiment was strongly for real choice and an alternative to private health insurance, it didn't make a wit of difference. They say they listen to us, and if that is true, it is only because they need to keep informed about how to spin their propaganda.

We are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY past emails and phone calls. The country needs a full people's revolution, and that has to happen on the streets.
