I think there should be a compromise regarding the Ground Zero Mosque
How bout this, Dont build a Mosque. Build lets say...a Muslim Community Center and have it contain a place for prayer. And dont build it on ground zero, thats ridiculous. I think building it a couple blocks away would be a fair compromise...

2. What a thought!
geez.. too bad the organizers of the effort didn't think about that--maybe consider purchasing a vacant and wasted space, like the Burlington Coat Factory to aid with the blight of shuttered businesses.

:sarcasm:

3. Gee that might even be the reality of the Manhattan real estate market.
Plus Mayor Bloomberg, NYC planners, and local Christian and Jewish leaders just might support the development.

The Iamn is a Sufi and did out reach for GWB and now the State Department under SOS Clinton.

I can handle this "compromise" and civil right.

22. This is the original plan
No changes at all. No controversy at all. This is an example of controversy created out of thin air. Whoosh!

23. They weren't ever building a mosque - that was right wing spin
They were building a community center with an area for prayer. And yes, the plan has been to build this community center two blocks away. We have been front seaters to a ginned up controversy about........nothing.

15. It is two blocks from WTC site, and Mayor Bloomberg has said what should have been said
by a lot of people that have chosen to remain silent. Bloomberg rocks, while many others suck!

"...If we say that a mosque or a community center should not be built near the perimeter of the World Trade Center site, we would compromise our commitment to fighting terror with freedom.

“We would undercut the values and principles that so many heroes died protecting. We would feed the false impressions that some Americans have about Muslims. We would send a signal around the world that Muslim Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law, but separate in the eyes of their countrymen. And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters, who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam.

“Islam did not attack the World Trade Center - Al-Qaeda did. To implicate all of Islam for the actions of a few who twisted a great religion is unfair and un-American. Today we are not at war with Islam - we are at war with Al-Qaeda and other extremists who hate freedom..."

19. I think that's a fair compromise.
The problem with compromises, like the Public Option eg, is that when you start with a compromise you always go downhill from there. Which is why you should always start with what you actually want.
