76-year-old attacked on casino bus: 'Mexican, go back to Mexico'

A 56-year-old man was arrested Monday after he repeatedly assaulted an elderly man while shouting racial slurs on a crowded charter bus headed for Chukchansi Gold Resort-Casino in Coarsegold, the California Highway Patrol said.

David Michael Halla was booked into Madera County Jail on suspicion of assault on an elderly person and a hate crime, said CHP Sgt. Edward Greene.

... Before the bus got to the casino, passengers began collecting a tip for the driver, Greene said. Halla became angry when he saw that a 76-year-old man -- who speaks only Spanish -- did not contribute money.

Halla first shoved the elderly man, Greene said. He returned to his seat but soon got up and struck the older man at least four separate times with a closed fist, Greene said.

During the attack, Halla used racial slurs such as "Mexican, go back to Mexico," Greene said.

6. California used to be Mexico.

Obviously there is no excuse for this kind of violence even if the victim were an illegal alien from Mexico. Looking at the assailant's picture, it is not hard to imagine that this might not be his first act of violence.

Apart from that, can't Mexicans lawfully come here on a passport and do touristy things like the victim was doing? That's IF he were a foreign national. He may have been born here. He may be from some other Spanish-speaking country.

Just another isolated incident (gee, there sure seem to be a lot lately) by another lone nut (who didn't seem to really upset anyone else on the bus until they thought he might have a gun). Imagine the scenario substituting a foreign country for the United States, some local hothead for Mr. Halla, and an American tourist who doesn't speak the prevailing language riding the bus, suddenly assaulted for failing to understand what was being yelled at him. I'm sure Fox would tell us all what to think of such an incident.

This guy looks like a miner. LOL! This is a tourist town as is Oakhurst. I go into Von's and see a bunch of white people gathered together carrying only the plastic baskets speaking if foreign tongues. But you see they are white. And they all come in their touristy bus. Actually I wonder what they think of us here. LOL! I bet they get a laugh for sure.
