Assange Arrest Warrant-"Part Of Smear Campaign" (Spokeswoman for Swedish Prosecution Authority)
Edited on Sun Aug-22-10 03:01 PM by kpete
UPDATE II: Al Jazeera conducted an interview with Karin Rosanger, the spokeswoman for the Swedish Prosecution Authority, that is really quite bizarre, and raises still more questions about what happened here and why:

Prosecutors in Sweden have said that they did not make a mistake when they issued an arrest warrant, for Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder, on sexual abuse charges, even though it was quickly withdrawn.

The country's prosecution authority dropped a rape charge against him, but a separate molestation accusation is still under investigation.

Assange, who has been criticised for leaking controversial documents on the US-led war in Afghanistan, told Al Jazeera that the accusations are part of a "smear campaign".

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Karin Rosander, from Sweden's prosecution authority, affirmed that no errors had been made in launching the charges against Assange.

1. I'm sort of missing the "bizzare" part. What that lady says is true.
Prosecutors have to act in the best interests of the community with the information they have. If the information changes, their actions have to be adjusted.

2. Is your headline saying that the spokeswoman for the Swedish
prosecuting authority said that the arrest warrant is "part of a smear campaign"?

Because that's how your headline reads. The text you posted however reads that it is Assange who called it "part of a smear campaign".

Please advise.

3. I think that I would have done some investigation before I went full frontal with
a press conference with an arrest warrant, only to eat crow 24 hours later with a but, but, but...

Makes the Swedish Prosecution Authority look like a puppet for some one other than the Swedish peoples.
