Question about rec/unrec..............
Call me stupid or ignorant, but what are the qualifications for "greatest thread" status? Is it rec/unrec or is it number of replies?

1. pretty sure it's rec/unrec
after all, often it's the WORST threads that get the most replies

3. Thanks guys...............
So, I guess a thread titled "I like Mom's apple pie!" would probably make "greatest" status. Who could unrec that???????

6. it's vague
depends on the mod, and whether they move a given thread to the lounge. But yeah, "I like pie" would get moved to the Lounge :)

7. Mods work on concensus, and no Mod takes any action without group concensus.
And yes, "I like pie" would go to the Lounge!

16. No problem.
:hi:

There seems to be a wide misconception that Mods work individually, which isn't at all true. Multiple moderators reach consensus before each action, removals, locks and moves. The idea that Moderators run rogue, taking action against members at will just isn't true. Everything we do is discussed in threads just like these. Even after an action, there is follow up. That's why sometimes it takes forever for an alert to be acted on- we take all alerts as they come in, and some require a TON of discussion.

8. Each forum has guidelines.
In the states, you'll read about that state. In Guns, you'll read about guns, etc.

Anything that doesn't fit into the other forums is Lounge material. The Lounge is relaxed, generally more fun and silly. The purpose is to provide an organized board to find what areas interest you.

13. That's a mistake too.
Lounge threads should be reccable as well as Sports and others.

14. meh
doesn't really matter to me; perhaps a separate "greatest lounge threads" thing?

There are LOTS of great posts in the Lounge, serious discussions and stories, etc. But there would also be 500 reqs for "Teh Sunday Kitteh Thread"

I understand the desire to not have that as the greatest thread ;)

15. I think it would give a more complete view of what DU is.
Of course, I'm not so sure about the 9/11 forum and I/P. But Guns, Sports, Religion, are all fine with me.
