DU changed my life
Quick summary: 1972-1974: Very liberal Dem, hated Nixon. Ford pardoned Nixon, tuned out for a long time.

1974-1976: Not able to vote yet, but still liberal Dem. but deeply disappointed in the system.

1976 to about 2003, I was a liberal Democrat. I wasn't really plugged into politics, but I have always voted D on all levels.

2003 to October 2004: I started listening to AM radio (yes, huge mistake). I still voted Dem during this period and never have once opposed any Dem. I've never given to the R's with money or time, etc.

October 2004 to the present: I'm back firmly in the liberal Dem. camp. DU is responsible for that. People back in 2004 had patience with my sincere questions. I read, I learned, I grew.

Thank you Skinner, EarlG, Elad, and other long-time DU posters. If you had rejected me in 2004, I might not be here today.

Steve

2. DU changed my life too.
If I had taken the time I have spent here over the last 9+ years and used that time to, say, write useful stuff, I would be about on my 3rd book by now.

3. Changed mine too
But I have always been a liberal ass-ed Democrat.

DU gave me an addiction. This place. But it has been a great place to discuss politics.

4. DU helped me a lot after 2000
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 06:38 PM by bobbieinok
I was then (and still am) in OK. I was surrounded at work, with my relatives, and in the media with constant RW propaganda. When I found DU, I knew I was not alone; other people (just not in my OK environment) had a political philosophy similar to mine and were doing things to change the political landscape.

At first just sharing anger and dismay; later planning activism, etc.

So DU has meant a lot to me. When you get angry about DUers who disagree with you, etc, and you want to dump the whole DU enterprise, remember those of us who live in the red, red, RED states. We NEED DU to show us that we are NOT alone.

5. DU helped me alot too. I went through something awful and DU allowed me
to learn and share from my horrid experience. I still learn every day I am on here.
