I get upset with some here, but DU is still a treasure

I have used DU for years to prepare for radio shows because you could count on someone posting news that you won't find anywhere else or faster than it hits the news services. I have seen a viciousness in people's replies here that aren't called for, a us vs. us mentality of some, and even a cold hearted thing such as unrec a threat where one of our members is struggling. Some here are just here to be a problem, others just aren't getting the total picture and giving in to false assumptions. The value of this site is it's information and communication with each other so we can not only get out the real story but also keep us in touch with each other.

As for those who are here to disrupt the mods and admin. will deal with them but please don't let these people stop you from posting because of their attacks. We are a good community and we must not allow these people to spoil it for the huge majority here.

HA! Just kiddin! I know what you mean, some folks are just assholes, plain and simple. Anyone who has been here a while has had to grow a thicker skin. I don't let anything anyone says or does bother me. I think they are just looking for attention, poor souls.

4. You're absolutely right.

I always assumed we had disruptors, but until a few weeks ago, after spending 2 full days researching the problem, I had no idea how organized and deliberate the disruptors actually are. Now I know.

DU looks different because of the massive organized spam attacks, but it's really still the same as it was 9 years ago.

6. I refuse to give into these sour people

they use the only thing they know and that is to insult and trash others hoping to bring them down to their level since they aren't able to see it would be better to climb up to the higher level. I doubt they have self confidence enough to see themselves being better so they choose the loser's way.

7. AGREED. For what it's worth:

I'd like to add a few thoughts.

What I find most valuable here -- and I still find them here and find them EXTREMELY valuable -- are:

1. Fast access to FACTS, selected from a progressive p.o.v., with SOURCES.
2. Well-reasoned analysis.
3. Moral support and humor.

I generally refrain from posting unless I think I can add one of those 3 things. (I also think it's best not to comment if I can't add one of those things, since the volume of posts is so high that finding the really helpful posts is like searching for a needle in a haystack.)

I've been here for 6 years, and I could be wrong but I don't think I've ever using pejorative terms personally toward another DU'er or their views. I try not to use pejorative terms too much, even in relation to Repubs.

In my experience, being judgmental about people may make the judger feel better but does little to advance discussion.

And I'm trying to fight in the battle of ideas; I want the ideas that win to do so because they're best, not because the opposition has been cowed or vilified.

Notwithstanding my approach to posting, a couple of years ago, I'm pretty sure I was being targeted by more than one hostile person -- absolutely EVERYTHING I offered, whether as post or reply, was instantly attacked in the most vitriolic, personally offensive terms.

After a month or two of this, I gave up posting, since not only did I feel personally battered, but everything I posted was turned on its head and sank before it could have any helpful effect anyway. I assumed the attackers were trolls, but who knows. As I recall, they didn't actually break any rules; they just beat up on me in an extreme and unwarranted way.

Now, maybe 2 years later, they seem to have vanished, and I find I can post again without getting flamed.

But I never gave up on DU, or stopped supporting it.
