Kudos to Fox News; excellent debate
Well, Fox News suprised the crap out of us who saw the debate. Chris Wallace and company stirred the shit big time, and they went at it for real. They called each other on all sorts of issues, to abortion to national security. Very entertaining debate and here are my takes:

Winner: Giuliani. The guy stood strong on his pro-choice view, but he came on in the second half of the debate and used his 9/11 hero persona to basically promote himself as the "Tough on Terror" guy. He won the crowd when he beat the crap out of Ron Paul, who had the balls to tell the public the truth.

2nd place: Huckabee. He came on as a very "nice", "honest", "likeable" guy that appeals to your average conservative. Excellent performance and his numbers will go up dramatically after tonight.

3rd place: McCain. Even though he probably lost the primaries tonight, he stood strong on his rejection of torture and pissed off South Carolinians with his Confederate flag answer (The flag is a thing of the past, people need to move on).

4th place: Romney. He tried to be slick again, but given the climate of this debate (it was a get dirty kind of the debate), he couldn't. He came across as a flip flopper.

The rest of them are toast. Big time.

1. Huckabee won with Republicans because of his Edwards slam
Trust me, he'll get a big bounce after tonight.

17. Not sure it will be Giuliani, and maybe not Hillary.
Giuliani basically admitted that he's pro-choice, pro-gays, and for gun control. I know many Republicans that won't vote for anyone who's pro-choice or pro gun control.

6. I don't know, but
They did what MSNBC didn't do; get candidate to call on each other and stir some controversy. Wallace did a Clinton on them and it worked.

4. I never understand some of the bullshit that passes for good politics in this country
Giuliani is Exhibit A in this matter.

This is the same man advisors were telling him to place the emergency services center underground in Brooklyn after the 1993 WTC bombing but decided that the emergency center should be at the WTC instead. The day of the 9/11 attacks and Giuliani's command center was essentially destroyed.

What the fuck kind of record is that to campaign on!?

They're all just going through motions, pretending to be human beings before they're elected and get down to their real agendas. It was all just a bunch of fake semi-populist rhetoric from a bunch of criminals. What's even funny is when they try to distance themselves from Bush when any idiot should be able to tell that they all support everything he's done whole heartedly and will do the same things when elected.

Wake me when they're blunt about their real intentions: dominating the world at the barrel of a gun for kicks and making everyone else poor as hell to make a very select few even richer.

I'm sure Rudy will win the nomination, being as how the corporate media's chosen him as the only real candidate. They make fun of McCain all of the time (not that he doesn't deserve it; what an idiotic flip-flopper). They've applied the labels of "fake" and "overly slick," so they're discrediting him. Rudy's the "hero of 9/11" and the "terrorism expert" (what the fuck? an incident just happens in his city and that's the sole criterion for his proficiency?). He's also a "straight shooter" and all of this bullshit. Give me a break. No one else is even given a chance, other than that Law and Order moron.

No real issues are discussed, and that's the whole purpose. These events and elections are carefully crafted to make sure real issues aren't discussed and real change does not occur. This is only a formal democracy. Abortion?! The fucking planet's burning and the lifeblood of our standard of living is diminishing rapidly and we have NO plans for an alternative! But, hey, doing something about real problems may cut into profits. What about the ridiculous fiscal condition this country is in?

These people make me sick. Fox makes me sick; Republicans make me sick. They've done nothing about the real problems that are going to kill us all for the last 30 years.

Oh, but Rudy did have a nice suit and utilized effect pausing and voice inflection. He's my candidate!

11. Those intervieweers put MSNBC to shame with the debate questions.
I have no idea if this was a ploy to win viewers, or what, but I sure was pleasantly surprised. There sure weren't any softballs! Good for them!

So they asked some real questions? Or better questions than MSNBC...at least.

Will it replay? I might watch a little bit...might.

22. Yes, it's rerunning at midnight EST. BTW, I only caught 1 or 2 mins.
of the Hannity followup, and THAT was a wassted 1 or 2 minutes. The debate moderators really did do a great job though. I watched the whole debate, which I didn't really intend to do. I figured I wouldn't be able to stand more than 5 mins at the most. I was quite impressed.

The candidates on the other hand didn't do that great, but that's just MO and I'm prejudiced.

21. It is likely the Eventual Repub Nominee Was Not On The Stage Tonight...
Newt is making noises about a 'great chance' he will run.

THere is no more despicable character than Newt, and that may be why he steps in to win the Nomination as the polls show all of tonights pretenders would lose bigtime.

25. Somebody please shoot me...
...if I EVER use the phrase "Kudos to Fox News" with a straight face.

OF COURSE they can't pull the shit they do on democrats - it's THEIR SIDE. (unless there was an actual "moderate" repug running, then they would trash that person.

But there are only 1 or 2 elected GOP moderates in the whole country, and even they are pretty far right on issues that count like labor and economic issues.

Fox News can kiss my ass especially those a-holes Gibson and Doocy.

26. They did a good job tonight
They didn't softball the GOP candidates like MSNBC did with BOTH parties. I'm sorry, but it has to be said: they did a good job tonight.

Even Chris Wallace asked Gilmore why the GOP field was only composed by white men when the other party had diversified its field!
