Levin hit in face with pie in Big Rapids
Nathan Hurst / Detroit News Washington Bureau

Washington -- Sen. Carl Levin was hit in the face with a pie this morning at a question-and-answer session on what should've been friendly ground in Big Rapids.

The Democrat from Detroit was speaking to members of the Mecosta County Democratic Party when a young man -- who described himself as a student -- began chastising Levin for his work on the Senate Armed Services Committee, which helps direct military and war policy.

After a few minutes of speaking at Pepper's Café and Deli, a woman who accompanied the student to the event walked up to Levin and hit him in the face with a pie, a source with Levin's office confirmed.

Big Rapids Police arrested the woman on assault and battery charges.

The Big Rapids Pioneer newspaper reported the woman's name as Ahlam Mohsen, a 23-year-old senior at Michigan State University; and her friend who instigated the incident with Levin as Max Kantar, 23. MSU lists Mohsen as a student, but it's unknown what school Kantar attends.

Levin hasn't made a public statement on the incident.

Lansing, Mich. —

A former Coldwater High School (CHS) student is facing prosecution in Ingham County for trespassing after a sit-in last Thursday in the Michigan office of U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D-Mich.).

Michigan State University (MSU) anthropology junior Ahlam Mohsen, 21, from Coldwater, and Ferris State University (FSU) students Max Kantar and Patrick Daly were part of a group of five who organized a sit-in at Levin’s office. The group arrived around noon and refused to leave until they spoke with Sen. Levin.

Mohsen told the MSU State-News newspaper the group wanted to present demands to the senator, which included having the U.S. take steps toward cutting off military, economic and diplomatic support for Israel and calling for an international investigation of Israeli war crimes.

When Levin’s office on the 18th floor of the Boji Tower closed, the students refused to leave and police were called. All three bonded out within 24 hours and were set for an arraignment in Ingham County District Court in February on the 90-day misdemeanor for the ordinance violation.

Mohsen told the student newspaper that the students had been trying to reach Sen. Levin by phone and e-mail for several weeks and received no response.

2. I have to admit I reacted with a shrug
since he's long been good for a blank check to the military.

The best thing he can do is present them with a bill for the dry cleaning and let it go at that. That would be my response in his place, although I might make a comment on whether or not I liked the pie at the time.

Getting pied is relatively harmless. Had the attackers been right wing, it would have been deadly.

3. Mecosta Co. = Armchair warriors
Lemme tell ya, talka bout dead fucking weight, those people can't even manage to coordinate a county party. Too much work, literally. When I was district chair of the Dems I offered to do a mailing for them and get them started with membership and fundraising and stuff (you know, real world political stuff) and they actually said no thanks. They didnt want to chance raising $1000 or more in a year and then have to file reports and what not.

Lazy whiney assholes.
