The thread about school supplies has energized me, and given me an idea.
Last year I "adopted" the elementary school near my house and donated 5 bags of school supplies to be given out to kids who had none. Did you have a favorite teacher in school? Why not donate some supplies in honor of them? I know that your local school would put the crayons etc. to good use, it might save a child from the embarrassment of not having the supplies and it might save the teacher from having to buy supplies out of her own pocket. I can't wait to go shopping!

1. We don't have much these days, but, I stretch dollars to do the same....it's THAT important.
Every buy one get one free deal goes to the collected supplies, too. The teachers appreciate the extra help.

2. In the other thread I spoke of this very thing. I go to a gym with a retired
school superintendent - former teacher and principal.

Through him we have adopted a second grade teacher, and told her that when she needs stuff for the class, or has a kid whose folks cannot provide his/her own stuff to let us know.

Many of us can do this on a small (or large if possible) scale, and many will benefit.

4. And we are the greatest nation in the world because...
We should not have to be doing this to get our kids educated. That is what taxes are for and we all know who is not paying their share.

5. It is a good idea.

Personally, I would love it there was no supply list, and I just gave them what they needed. I used to be able to do that; it's been 12 years since I worked at a district that had an open supply policy, though.

Parents are out right now stocking up, so if you are going to do something like that, get the word out quickly.
