SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Time Warner Inc. said late Friday that it had successfully tackled a small outbreak of bedbugs at the media giant's headquarters in New York City.

"As part of a routine cleaning and preventive process, it was discovered that there were bed bugs present in a small contained area within Time Warner's offices," the company said. "The problem was treated by professionals and is no longer an issue."

Time Warner spokeswoman Mallory Zalkin said the company put out a statement in response to media reports that bedbugs had infested the Time Warner Center, the company's headquarters building at Columbus Circle in Manhattan, which includes areas where the public shop and eat. The bedbugs were only found in a small part of Time Warner's corporate offices, not in public-access areas, she added.

This is the latest incidence of a bedbug infestation that's swept New York and captured global attention. The Times of London called the trend an "epidemic" in a May 31 report.

In 2004, there were a reported 537 complaints and 82 "violations" (verified infestations) for bedbugs in New York. By 2009, that had soared to 10,985 complaints and 4,084 verified infestations, according to the Times. Read more about the Big Apple's bedbug infestation.

6. Are you going? We just came back and had a wonderful time.
Navy Pier has fireworks on Wed and Sat nites...highly recommend - and it's free. I love Chicago.
The only bites I came back with were mosquito bites.

He was pointing out that hotel called Heart of Chicago - it's on the north side.
