Poll question: Would you commit time to stopping Social Security cuts?
As most on DU know, http://journals.democraticunderground.com/MannyGoldstein/102">a commission has been set up to slash Social Security.

I'm idly curious: how many people care enough about this that they would spend a few hours alerting others about this issue?

I don't have a plan of any sort - just curious as to how much people care.

2. Most of the country already opposes the cuts.
It doesn't matter what we think. The parasitic upper class wants more power and money and they will get it.

6. Which is why I think there's an opportunity to take a stand
The bad guys will be clever about trying to slide it through - people need to understand exactly how they'll do it, and need to alert their elected reps that they feel strongly.

7. K&R
It's time the elderly, poor, and middle class rise up and form our own damned lobby. Not with money, but with votes.

I'm keeping an eye on this issue, and am definitely going to alert people about what's going on.

8. I do think the recent panic is unwarranted
The "catfood committee" or whatever it's called ...

They're looking at whether they can tinker around the edges of it. Every administration and Congress has done that since SocSec began. And they'll find the same answer: Social Security is here to stay, but it can be used for political purposes.

For example, telling people that the Social Security fund will soon be bankrupt, and that it's a Ponzi scheme. That's been a talking point since SocSec began, too.

9. Until the wealth disparity is addressed.
Any of those cuts is ridiculous. That is a 300 million comment. Since it effects everyone accept 1%.

10. Unwarranted concern. SS is not going to be cut.

At WORST, the age of full benefits will rise for those that are currently under 40.... from 67 to 70. (Yes, those under 40 are already set for age 67).

16. I can't vote again because of an ad over the vote button. But yes.
And I already belong to the Committee to Defend Social Security and Medicare.

And since I teach gerontology, I do in fact speak quite about about Social Security, and Medicare -- and Medicaid, for that matter.
