Hoekstra slams Right to Life for snub, wants its director ousted
By CHRIS CHRISTOFF
FREE PRESS LANSING BUREAU

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra blasted Michigan Right to Life today for not endorsing him in the Aug. 3 Republican gubernatorial primary, and said the anti-abortion organization’s director, Barb Listing, should be fired.

He also said he has no interest in being GOP nominee Rick Snyder’s running mate for the general election.

“I’d say there’s a 1% possibility I will be on this ticket,” he said. “There are other opportunities I’d rather pursue. Being lieutenant governor is not in my future.”

Hoekstra said Right to Life’s decision to endorse only Attorney General Mike Cox in the race was a major factor that allowed Rick Snyder to slip past him on election day and win the GOP nomination.

1. Bitter much?
What a piece of work. Demanding someone be fired for not endorsing you smacks of arrogance.

4. You should have seen who Hoekstra replaced.
Guy Vanderjact. Now that guy was a true piece of work.

Compared to him, Hoekstra is a rank amateur.

2. Bwahahaha. Wittle Petey is having a temper tantrum.
That being said, I don't think the right to life endorsement would have helped him. Rick Snyder is pro choice from what I understand and won by quite a large margin.

3. So now. if an official doesn't endorse the Hockester they
should be fired. I guess everybody in Michigan that wouldn't have voted for him should be chased out of the state. I swear the ego of these republicans. I posted...one of the meaning of the word CONservative is "they think they have a divine right"..boy this guy proves it. I guess everyone who comes from Holland thinks that.

6. I actually crossed party lines
to vote against that jackass. I wanted ZERO chance he would be the nominee. I have a sick feeling that the MI Governor's race is going to go red no matter who the candidates are. There's too much frustration here right now. Although Rick Snyder shipped many jobs overseas, he's still a better choice than either Hoekstra or that cretin Mike Cox, the demagogue who sued against "Obamacare". What a creep.

7. My son did too, catbyte. He tells me Snyder is an
"Ann Arbor" moderate republican ala Milliken. My son also doesn't believe Bernero will win and hence he wanted the most moderate republican to win the primary, I disagree. Personally, I refuse to believe this state is going to another republican,I voted Bernero.

10. I was torn, sufrommich
I like Bernero, but hated Hoekstra and Cox worse. I sincerely hope you're right and I'm wrong!

9. Likely Correct
You are likely correct. Considering the worse-than-average economic situation in Michigan, it is likely for the Republicans to pick up the governorship, if for no other reason than it is controlled by the Democrats.

The main motif seen in gubernatorial races in states with unemployment above the national average is the incumbent party is suffering.

Congressional races usually aren't impacted in the same way as gubernatorial races. Gubernatorial races (as well as those for statewide officials and legislative races) tend to be more squarely about economics while federal races tend to be more complex.

For example, swing voters (which tend to be pro-choice independents) will pay more attention to abortion stances of federal candidates but not care very much about a pro-life/pro-choice stance of a gubernatorial candidate, thinking that due to Roe v. Wade, that it is irrelevant.

8. This Will Hurt Him
This kind of bitterness is likely to turn off any potential voters in the future. Methinks that Hoekstra has just aborted any chance for future elected office.

If he runs for office in the future, look for him to get the cold shoulder from the GOP establishment and struggle to even raise $50,000 in campaign funds...
