80. What I sourly called "the moron corridor" a few years ago
was a band of solid red stretching north from Texas to the Dakotas. Now the only solid red is in Kansas and Nebraska.

To me, that is progress.

In any case, the projections on that map have the Democrats retaining the House, albeit with a slightly smaller majority. That's good news because this is likely one of the gloomiest projections out there. Newspapers do go for sensationalism these days, you know.

The other good news is that they keep trumpeting that the Republicans are charging back. This is alarming a lot of the folks I hear when I'm out and about and that is good news for the Democrats.

I'm a pessimist, always have been, because I preferred the occasional pleasant surprise to getting crushed all the time. However, I'm cautiously optimistic about November.

Just be prepared for a few ugly surprises. And a few stunning victories.

19. (sigh) Appearance mean shit, we've tried since the days of Ronnie Raygun
and the Pukes have eaten our lunch. WE the Democrats (or the form that currently controls the White House, have been in power SINCE 2006, and the Pukes were in power from 1981 UNTIL THEN.

Give me a break.

The last time I was told to worry about my appearance it was by a Puke.

What will help them get the majority??

What will help the Repubs get the majority??

Just saying "no" is not a platform. Just saying that you want less government doesn't fly. Because the less government folks are what f-ed up the last 8 years.

62. actually that is false
forty years ago we did want a social contract, to aid the poor, education for all--what we didn't want is an invasive government snooping and destroying lives because some questioned their government (MKUltra). Now you got Little Boots and his greedy buddies shouting "government is bad", "we need smaller government", but what he really meant is let my corporate buddies rape, pillage with no regulation while we put more invasive government on you peons. And until everyone realizes that the neo-con repukes is for what benefits them and global corporations--and wars that we the people pay for will be fought by us for their corporate interests.

The people who focus on their second amendment rights disregard that other rights are being trampled. Apparently they think their guns will be the answer when they take rights, like habeas corpus or posse comitatus from the people--and that is exactly what Little Boots did. Yet, at the time it seems those teabaggers weren't bothered at all.

I'd say the FEAR that is perpetuated by the repugs, makes for a more compliant, stupid group. And, as they splatter- baiting from race, gay bashing to those evil unions--the repugs seem to see what will stick to the wall. And the truly fearful swallow it everytime.

By the way, that's Democratic Party. "Democrat Party" is the expression used by those very right wing blogs
I mentioned. Where it is is true that education budgets have been curtailed over the last ten years, literacy
isn't yet totally disdained here.

You know, the side that says Obama is a Kenyan Muslim (AKA n****r). Why is it the "Democrat" party should lose the majority (which BTW the only people who say that are Fox News and Republic leaders - which one are you?) and the Republics will gain by doing the same thing you're accusing us of doing, only moreso?

Really, you're being quite obvious here. Work on your subtlety.

Spare me!
The right wing uses the crudest most blatantly racist if imagery while shouting nonsense for which there is no rational argument. These people are impervious from facts. These are morons who have signs that say get your government hands off my medicare and the only reason they're pitching a fit and yammering about wanting their country back because there's a black man in the White House and these assholes think the White House refers to the color of the man who's supposed to be in it.

There is no rational discussion with these people. They should be written off for the crazy fringe they are and most of what they're complaining about should be summarily written off as imbecilic. There is no good reason why gatherings of a couple of hundred of these ignoramuses should be covered as news while thousands of people protesting from the left are ignored.

Worrying about how these morons see is a complete waste of time. There are valid reasons why the DemocratIC party (thanks for outing yourself as one who dwells under a bridge with that Democrat bullshit) but it's not cursing on fucking message board that's the problem. It's the kind of spinelessness that you advocate.

Kindly go back to your bridge.

17. Bullshit
Not when their opinions are based on lies and propaganda, such as Obama is a foreigner and the government raised their taxes when it didn't. When they keep spouting things that are clearly false and disproven again and again, then their "opinions" are delusions and we are under no obligation to take them seriously. No one gets to have opinions that are completely false put up as counterpoints to opinions based on reality.

66. you ever wonder why the media carries water for the teabaggers?
Ever wonder why a group of a hundred of them can congregate or a network will tell the populace where they can go to join them? And yet, hundreds of thousands marched against the Iraq aggression, but the media had other things to do.

If you back your pro-corporate, privatizing, deregulating masters, they are more than willing to fund you and give you the attention. And, I want to reiterate-"We the people are the government." So government is bad, helping our communities and our people is bad, bailing out corporations and wallstreet is good, more deregulation so that they can screw us some more is good, privatizing public programs so that those corporations can make a profit (overcharging and shitty service with no representation) is good.

I hope there are enough people in this country to catch on, if not most of the people in this country will be totally screwed (except maybe the five percenters). So, if we become a theocratic corporatocracy, how much representation will we have then?

13. The Pastor is a phony
On why he's supporting the re-election of Republican Sen. David Vitter, who has admitted to hiring prostitutes:

"If you have no sin, then sure you go ahead and throw the first stone. One thing I admire about him is that when this came to light, he did not run from it, he did not duck it, he did not dodge it. He stood up to it like a man ought to. ...

"The only thing we can do is look at how a person handles his mistakes once they are revealed. I think he handled them honorably."

On why he opposes President Obama:

"He's too liberal for me."

So in God's eyes it's OK to hire prostitutes, but it's not OK to be a liberal?? Just plain phony.

..... even if the majority of Americans have dismissed them as quacks.

45. It's not April Fool's Day, but it is sure as heck Friday the 13th.
Good Grief. But it wouldn't be the first time the media openly espoused racism and strong-armed tactics. :(

57. Well Rep. Bachmann does have some valid points.
From TFA:

In founding the congressional Tea Party Caucus, Bachmann says she focused on three ideas that she thinks unite the "various flavors" of the movement: "Act within the Constitution; we're taxed enough already; and don't spend more than you bring in.

Well two out of three I can wholeheartedly agree with. The "Taxed enough already" meme is not valid. Taxation distribution is wrong - see Warren Buffett about that one.

So does me agreeing with 66% of a tea-partier make me a Tea Party member? Noo.... not by a long shot. They have some valid points, and a lot of invalid points.

68. Too bad she wasn't concerned when Little Boots
Edited on Fri Aug-13-10 10:39 AM by newspeak
was using the Constitution as tp. And she sure as hell wasn't worried when Little Boots was doling out our money for his bogus war to his greedy war contractors or that some of our money has been unaccounted for.

67. Read past the headline
Unfortunately, most of the public is not smart enough to read past the headline, and they'll generalize as the op appeared to.

Down in the text:
While it's difficult to generalize about any group, especially one still in evolution, the interviews provide a ground-level glimpse in their own words of the passions that drive the movement.

That is what was meant by "ground-level view". Now, having said that, I think the headline was intended to be inflammatory. Certainly will increase their traffic today. I would never have gone to the USA Today site otherwise.

It's a one-sided article, but it was entirely intended, at least as far as I read it, to give a view of the Tea Party from within the Tea Party. That has value, even if just in understanding the insane ones. The profiles at the bottom are revealing in that every one is essentially a "conservative", where that is defined as extremely fiscally conservative, when you don't include military; social conservative; free-market loons; removal of government regulations.

Once again, sounds like just the core of what Re-thugs say is their base, even though they lost any concept of fiscal conservatism in the last 10 years or so.

71. You know the only reason that paper is around is cause the name rhymes right?
It's catchy. Don't take it seriously. Outside of the states I don't think it even registers. When I want to read a US paper its usually the NYT or Chicago Sun.

75. This line from the article is priceless:
Resent their portrayal in news stories.Liberal commentators including Eric Boehlert of Media Matters argue that some news organizations have overstated the clout of the Tea Party, but the activists USA TODAY interviewed call coverage in many newspapers and TV outlets unfairly negative.

84. You forgot one...
military--->DEFENSE

I wonder if that imbecile realizes that her beloved "DEFENSE" is paid for by taxes. Or, that the vast majority of what she pays in federal taxes goes toward it. I am ashamed to be from the same country as such ignorant, stupid people.
