Part I is here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8927366Are there any leftists who think and behave in the ways Mr. Gibbs describes? Well yes, perhaps, but they are far fewer in numbers than Gibbs is claiming, and people who are really that extreme probably didn't vote for Obama anyway, instead preferring a fringe leftist candidate like Nader, McKinney, etc. So they are not our constituency anyway. But Gibbs instead proceeded to insult a large segment of the president's top supporters, making it seem like conventional liberals were demanding a socialist revolution. In fact, they HAVE been very supple and very willing to compromise on issue after issue. In the case of the health care bill, we saw far more compromises being agreed to by the liberals in Congress than the DLC/Blue Mutts, who persistently made demands that the bill be ever more corporatized.
But with a precious few exceptions (very few I might add), the liberals played ball, gave the Blue Mutts what they wanted (and a few of them STILL voted no) and we passed a health insurance reform bill that did some good things, but fell well short in many other areas.
Gibbs proceeded to insult them, which achieved nothing productive at all. We have seen in the past when other people have made gaffes (or alleged gaffes, ahem Shirley Sherrod) they were asked to resign or issue humiliating forced apologies. I am actually not much of a fan of apologies (I think they are a sign of weakness and vulnerability), but I am a nice enough person that I think Gibbs should be allowed to resign before being fired.
