Teen actor Eitan Djiji (My Homework Ate My Dog) dies from burns suffered in L.A. home fire

Christchurch-raised aspiring actor Eitan Djiji's old school is "shocked" by the news of his death.

The Los Angeles County-USC Medical Centre has confirmed the 14-year-old former Prebbleton School pupil, who was on life support after being rescued from his blazing Los Angeles home, has died.

Prebbleton principal Mike Hogan said it was "devastating news."

He said he hadn't contacted the family yet, but others in the community had.

"As you can imagine people are shocked and very sad and upset. People still can't believe that such a young life has gone in such a tragic way."

....

Eitan featured in a 2008 comedy film My Homework Ate My Dog, about a kid who never does his homework, and has also performed as a singer and stand-up comic.

2. No functioning smoke alarms. When our house caught fire three years ago
it was the smoke alarm in my son's bedroom that awakened him. It was 4:30 in the morning.
I had gotten up to go to the bathroom and discovered the fire before our smoke alarm (on the third floor)
was set off.

We all got out--but the house was an inferno within minutes.

Please check to make sure all your smoke alarms are working.
