Calif. Chamber of Commerce opposes marijuana legalization

The state’s business lobby is taking a stand against a measure that would legalize recreational marijuana use in California.

California’s Chamber of Commerce says Proposition 19 could open the door to smoking pot in the workplace.

A new legal analysis from the Chamber of Commerce says Proposition 19 could lead to a surge in wrongful-termination lawsuits if employers try to fire workers who use marijuana on the job.

... However, Prop. 19 campaign strategist Dan Newman says the Chamber’s claim is a scare tactic.

“Presumably the Chamber does not prohibit its employees from drinking alcohol at home as long as it doesn’t affect their job performance and the same would apply for marijuana under Prop. 19,” said Newman.

3. CoC is anti-business
They claim to represent business interests and yet they are against a proposal which would create an entirely new industry which would hire thousands and create billions in economic stimulus. Marijuana is going to save California and we will all look back and see that the CoC was on the wrong side of this issue.

4. Alcohol is still profitable - and legal
They know that marijuana is NOT profitable - for them.

5. Why are they worried?
I've personally never done it at the office, but I know talented and dedicated co-workers who have as well as slackers and drama queens who never touch the stuff.
