Man stole his brothers identity to substitue teach in public school for three days
Man accused of pretending to be substitute teacher

By Sheryl Kahn
NewsChannel 3

A Moreno Valley man is charged with identity theft, after pretending he was his brother and teaching middle school for three days. Police say Isaac Arterberry is not a licensed school teacher, but his brother is. Now, parents want to know how the fake teacher managed to get into the classroom in the first place.

At Landmark Middle School in Moreno Valley, administrators are trying to figure out how 21-year-old Isaac Arterberry allegedly tricked them.

Police say Arterberry answered the phone when the school called his brother, who's a licensed substitute teacher. The school needed a sub and authorities say Isaac Arterberry pretended to be his brother and showed up to teach social studies last week.

He reportedly got away with it for three days until a parent called the district to tell them they had the wrong guy in front of the class.

3. Reminds me of a subplot in 1984's "Teachers" where Richard Mulligan
walked out of an insane asylum (OK, not this part) and became one of the most effective teachers in the nearby high school with the kids totally engaged in his historic renditions. The school assumed he was a valid substitute teacher.

This may be begging the question, but I've done substitute teaching in pubic middle schools. The pay isn't worth the effort to deceive the adminstration. And tell me how my teaching license and college degrees were necessary: For 6 classes in a row, all I did was play the same videotape to the classes. Or the kids worked independently. Or you made sure no one cheated while taking a test. I rarely had to "teach".

4. Is he a masochist?
Who in his right mind would actually use deception to substitute teach?
