Maybe numb is a better word...caused by the never ending litany of atrocities worldwide. Just take the Rwandan genocide of the 1990s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rwandan_Genocide It had a death toll about 4X that of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki death toll (maybe a million people?). Even fewer people talk about that.

East Timor. Cambodia. Darfur. Armenia. Bosnia. Nanking. Nazi Germany. Measured by death toll Hiroshima/Nagasaki don't even make the top ten list.
