Supermodel's remarks spark outrage - says there should be law mandating breastfeeding
Gisele Bundchen didn't mean to 'judge' new moms

Patricia Schlein/WENN.com

Gisele Bundchen is adamant she didn't mean to offend new mothers with her recent comments about breastfeeding, insisting she was just sharing her "opinions" on the deeply personal subject.

The supermodel sparked outrage after she told Harper's Bazaar magazine there should be "a worldwide law" which forces women to feed their children naturally for six months after giving birth.

The Brazilian beauty's comments infuriated women's groups, and Bundchen -- who has a baby son, Benjamin -- has now spoken out to calm the fuss.

Oh, Gisele. You have to almost feel sorry for her, as she seems to have let enthusiasm get the better of her PR judgment. It appears the Brazilian supermodel has stirred up a hornet's nest by declaring that breast feeding should be "a worldwide law" and she suggested that "mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months," CNN reports. Her comments during an interview in Harper's Bazaar U.K. sparked hostility across the blogosphere and in news comment sections. Many parents proclaimed that breastfeeding is a personal choice and may, at times, not be an option for medical reasons.

Maybe something got lost in translation, as she quickly began backpeddaling, CNN further reports:

2. Umm - what about mothers who are physically unable to breastfeed, or who should not for medical
reasons (e.g. those with HIV or who are taking anti-cancer drugs that could damage the baby)?

Or adoptive/foster mothers?

4. Why does anyone care about what supermodels, actors
and beauty queens think? The only time we should give a hoot, is if they decide to enter politics.
