Rolling Stone’s Hastings responds to revoked embed
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100805/pl_yblog_upshot/rolling-stones-hastings-responds-to-revoked-embed

Reporter Michael Hastings says that the Pentagon's decision to revoke his access to troops in Afghanistan is about more than "just about a Rolling Stone reporter being banned from an embed."

(snip)
"This is a symptom of, essentially, the war, and how the war is going," Hastings told "Today" host Meredith Vieira.

"June and July were the deadliest months that we've ever seen in the war in Afghanistan. The war has hit its all-time low in approval ratings," he observed. "So clearly, there's great concern in Washington about how the war is going and the response to this embed — the response to me on this embed — sort of indicates that."

Hastings says he didn't report anything that was off the record. He added that in the letter from Kabul, there were "no specific cases where they mentioned accuracy or anything I got wrong, or any rules I supposedly broke."
