Bottom line this for me: can a gay couple in CA get married now or not?

3. On one of the TV shows that pretend to be news they said the opposite
That the judge had left the hold in force until further notice. But I have not read the opinion so hopefully that report was wrong.

2. No, the judge has left a hold on it until he finds out about appeals
Or something like that. I think it can be assumed there will be appeals and it would be messy to have it allowed/not allowed back and forth as this works up to the Supreme Court. It sucks that so many people STILL have their lives on hold while haters control their choices.

A San Francisco federal judge today struck down California's ban on same-sex marriage, concluding that it tramples on the equal rights of gay and lesbian couples and that they are entitled to be married throughout the state.

Within minutes of his historic decision, however, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker agreed to put his ruling on hold for at least a few days to consider arguments on whether California should be barred immediately from enforcing Proposition 8, a move that would allow county clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

5. No. Judge ordered a stay
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 07:46 PM by AmericaIsGreat
The stay was requested before the case was heard in case the judge ruled the way he did.

Appeal must be filed within 60 days and will go to the 9th circuit (which will probably rule the same way).

After that it'd be the Supreme Court but from what I've heard/read they would probably not hear this case and make the state sort it out.
