Fox News Prop 8 headline... "URGENT"... LOL!
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 04:37 PM by ReverendDeuce
This is hysterical... URGENT implies DANGER!

And the use of the term "legal wrangling"... Do they even TRY to look legitimate anymore?

2. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with either term
Neither is pejorative or unusual in the slightest.

7. The word "urgent" connotes action is needed.

27. And I think it connotes "DANGER!"
...as in "URGENT: Tornado Warning" or "URGENT: Child kidnapped."

More scare tactics from Faux Noise.

9. I've NEVER seen a cable news outlet use "URGENT" as a headline for "BREAKING" news...
It's a loaded word designed to inflame and enrage their viewers.

I can forgive "legal wrangling," but it's used in such an eye-rolling fashion for anyone who is onto Fox's game.

13. "No, by all means, don't wear a leather jacket and long boots. This is NOT a dog whistle.
Wait, what are you getting that shotgun for? This is NOT a dog whistle, I told you, so stop saying that! There's NO pack of 87 rabid pit bulls, 38 of which are black and the other 49 white/brown, 41 male and 46 female, coming from a storage facility 1.3 miles from here to maim and dismember you. Who gave you that idea?"

20. "Urgent" didn't strike me as meaning anything other than "important"
But I see where the other posters are coming from.

"Legal wrangling," though, is such a common construction.

23. Not "unusual in the slightest."???
Waaa???? A true news organizaton would use "Breaking news" for such a newsworth item. The use of the word "urget" -- a dog whistle meant to impy a call to action against something negative/dangerous -- just proves that Faux is not a reputable news organization.

6. "URGENT" in red, all caps
interesting editorial decision. I have never understood how gay marriage affects anyone but the couple involved and their immediate families. What's so urgent about that?

I don't see much sense of urgency in the article but the headline is from another angle all-together.

24. How does gay marriage affect other people? Well, as a parent, I know one way
I like to think of myself as part of the "straight but not narrow" crowd - a married suburban wife with 2 kids.

I have no idea whether my kids are straight or gay yet, and I'm pretty sure they don't either. But in any case, I want them to be able to choose to marry for love, have the option of raising a family, and not have societal stereotypes tell them who to love or how to be happy.

Constitutionally protected right to marriage for all consenting adults should be a boon to any open minded parent whose ultimate wish is happiness and fulfillment for their children, no matter what.

If my daughter or son were in love and couldn't marry the man or woman of their dreams, it would absolutely break my heart.

That's how this ruling affects me. :)

Cheers and yeah us!

35. Partly. I'm a bit shocked by your reaction.
Many conservatives and Republicans are honest people who hold their beliefs in good faith. Attempting to understand them is not a bad thing. Some of the most effective "breakthroughs" I've had with conservative friends have been borne from mutual respect.
