Why subsidize meat production?
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 04:17 PM by Boojatta
Why not subsidize the agricultural production of those foods that are essential for human beings?

If some people preferred to be omnivores, but were vegetarians because of poverty, then would their vegetarianism itself be considered an unacceptable hardship?

6. Very good question
As long as those subsidies exist, we'll have the unhealthy and unsustainable food production system we have.

And, of course, subsidies are the dirty little secret of those arguing that we have a free market where market forces reign.

7. For the same reason oil and coal are subsidized
the powerful demand socialism for themselves and Capitalism for the rest of us. Besides, cancer and heart disease risks jump when animal flesh is consumed daily. It's a boon for Big Pharma too.

9. The rich don't demand socialism for themselves, they demand the transfer of wealth to themselves
and they call it individualism.
