Man Carded to Buy Eggs at Cub Foods
http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/man-carded-to-buy-eggs-at-cub-foods-aug-3-2010

MINNETONKA, Minn. - A 19-year-old was told by a worker at the Minnetonka Cub Foods he was too young to purchase eggs.

Sean Downs and his mom have been shopping at the Cub Foods in Minnetonka since he was a little boy.

Sean brought a coupon for a free carton of eggs to the store at Highways 101 and 7 Monday night, but when he got the register, the cashier asked him for his ID.

"I just thought they were joking around but I guess not," said Downs.

She then told him he couldn't buy the eggs because police had asked them not sell eggs, toilet paper or shaving cream to anyone under 21 after 8 p.m.

Ridiculous.

I think I've seen it all now.

3. I would think so.
I know stores don't want to sell spray paint to minors, but eggs and toilet paper??? Good grief.

12. It definitely is, but it's not necessarily illegal
Most age discrimination laws are in regards to employment or federal programs, and are generally aimed at people over 40.

But as with many things, just because it's not illegal, doesn't mean it's right.

Here you can buy eggs but not spray cans of paint.

5. Is this more paranoia about meth?
I remember a grocery store by where I used to live would take your name and address down if you bought cold medicine.

Just swell. So the next time a meth lab is raided in the area the police have a nice list of "suspects" who had the temerity to buy Tylenol.

9. The Minnetonka police are worried about vandalism
<snip>

Police say this all started a few years ago, when Minnetonka was having a problem with vandalism. In fact, once teenagers poured laundry detergent into a fountain causing thousands of dollars of damage. Investigators say in most cases the teens were buying the materials to commit their crimes at the Minnetonka Cub Foods.

11. No - this is just to stop simple "prank" vandalism - egging,
toilet papering and the like.

Problem is if you deny kids tools, they may just find others, so this is just a temporary fix (if any).

13. Yep. That's what I thought of when I read the list of things.
Of course, when someone is denied the tools they want, they'll find something else, and most likely with much worse results.

Because it will go to court and everyone will be in the news. Then they go away.

14. Ha! Hahahahaha! Yes. Tell that to the guy that is facing 16 years in prison
for recording cops on a public street.

Yes, indeedy... they will go away.

Exactly, what kind of RADICAL ACTIVISM have you done?

16. And they're all famous from the news coverage, aren't they?
See how right I am? Most cops like to avoid that kind of controversy and scrutiny.

And really, WTF? I didn't see anything in the story about a conversation being recorded so I guess you're just throwing out random unrelated tantrums.

I'm the kind of activist who learns this stuff from experience rather than just reading about it in the paper. I've personally used this tactic with success and so have several friends.
I'm always amazed when someone combines arrogance and ignorance. It's so talk-radio.

If you go around saying "He's facing 16 years" you're doing what the police want and scary people into being submissive.

26. Meanwhile, he has to hire a lawyer. Lose time from work or lose his job altogether.
Simply telling the police to fuck off will get you no where. Citizens organized (ACTIVISM) to tell the police to fuck off might have a greater impact.

and came to the counter with a dozen eggs and a dollar bill.

There was no way in hell those eggs were going to get eaten.

will result in a thermonuclear bomb!!!

...or the morning ritual of breakfast, a bowel movement and a shave.

Which in some circles constitutes a breach of NATIONAL SECURITY!!!!

I get so tired of this moronic shit.

37. Around here they save that sort of thing for October
Specifically, the couple of weeks before Halloween...for obvious reasons.

Although most of the vandalism is mainly only of the toilet paper type. Going into town the day after Halloween, one can see long streamers of Charmin, Scottissue, White Cloud, etc. hanging from tree branches and structures.

I think it's sort of festive, myself.
