I think we need a Republican sweep this November...
and perhaps a Republican in the White House in 2012.

The mushy "independents" are going all weak-kneed regarding our President and his progress, and are grumbling that their "hopey-changey" isn't happening fast enough to undo eight years of economic and constitutional destruction either caused or allowed to happen because of the previous occupant and his evil overlord veep.

I think that we need a few additional years of Republican dominion in order for these stupid folks to truly appreciate how bad "bad" can get. Obviously, they've forgotten already.

1. Here, here.
Nothing would unite DU faster than another Republican Administration to rally against.

The question is: could we as a nation survive it? I hope we don't have to find out for a long while...

I wouldn't count independents out yet. I don't think the Republicans are going to make as big of gains as they are hoping.

We'll find out in a few months.

I don't need to stab myself with a knife to remember that it hurts. BushCo was bad enough. We don't need to inflict further damage on our country just to prove a point.

4. We won't be the ones inflicting it...
at least no one here on DU. It'll be the so-called "independent voters" who don't know when they have it good. They're the ones who don't "get it". They'll be the ones that screw you and I over.

That is its nature. But calling for a Republican sweep is ike curing a cold with a nuclear bomb. Sure, the cold is gone, but...

6. I really truly think if just one of the Bush era messes were
prosecuted, the people would have an idea of what Bush/Cheney did to this country. And I fault Democrats for not letting that happen. The latest being Holder letting them get away with the attorney firings.

Haven't the republicans already said that if they get in they are going to investigate each and every Democrat and every thing they have done. And if they do get in I bet Obama will be hit will all kinds of crap and that they start impeachment. No matter they have no cause, they will manufacture one.

Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 02:59 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
Not entirely as a result of Nader's candidacy but certainly it should be difficult-if not entirely impossible- to believe (honestly) Nader's underlying premise that there is no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. Of course, amazingly, some people do still seem to believe this.

12. Worst possible outcome
When has anyone "learned" the lesson from GOP rule? They're still celebrating Reagan!

If you want to teach them a lesson, better to elect dems and show them what we can do.

I certainly don't want to see "how bad 'bad' can get.

13. if judged by our politicians
then showing them "what we can do" is apparently little besides the facilitation of corruption and oligarchy.

Our real problem is that we don't hold these guys to what they promise on the campaign trail, so what they actually do ends up being quite different than what they led us to believe they would do.

42. Here's the thing, though...this ISN'T about the President...
This thread wasn't started because of not supporting Obama (although I think the '08 campaign Obama has been body-snatched and replaced by "can we all get along" Obama), nor expecting him to be "perfect" (really!!!???), or not getting a pony, or any other bullshit commentary I hear here regularly. It IS all about the stupid voters who are easily distracted by teh shiney, and aren't upset because they haven't been paying attention. That is all.

20. I don't think impeachment
I think that they learned their lesson with Clinton. A new GOP conntrolled Congress would be out to embarrass Obama in every way that they can, but would not bring up the "I" word. They have no chance of getting two-thirds of the Senate to vote for conviction and don't need another Rose Garden Acquittal Party like Clinton received.

34. You Can't Fix Stupid...
If people are stupid enough to think the GOOP will make things better, yep, this country deserves what it's going to get. And it's not going to be good as the rushpublicans will feel emboldened that their obstructionism has worked and will totally shut the government down. Of course the corporate media will blame President Obama and soon the polls will show it. This is so damned predictable and disapointing.

If Democrats and Independents who make up the majority of this country's electorate sit home this fall and the GOOP retakes one house or both, this country will be massively screwed...and deserve it.

39. I think they should have won in '08, just so that things would get bad enough to illustrate the
urgency for a hard "left" turn. Most people seem to act like everything is just fine, until THEY lost THEIR jobs or get really sick. For the trial of Lindsay Lohan to occupy so much MSM time, one gets the impression that nothing else is happening.

40. I'll take........
"No way in Hell!!!" for a 1000, Alex. Although I understand where you're coming from.

Republicons seem to have Sith-like powers over the weak-minded so called "independents" (most of whom are likely disaffected Republicans) and if and when they vote Democratic, it seems like they are only willing to give a Democratic POTUS (ANY Democratic POTUS) a year (or less) to try to turn things around- all while facing a solid block of Republicon obstructionism

However, I am of the opinion that we MUST keep fighting them tooth and nail and reminding people why exactly this country is in the mess that it is in and who got us here. We can ill-afford any more "Republican dominion" and we certainly cannot simply allow it to occur.

I will stipulate that we will lose some seats in November. However, I refuse to believe- until all of the returns actually come in- that the Republicans will control either the House or the US Senate starting in January 2011.
