GOP House Members Are Setting the Stage for Investigations of Obama
http://legalschnauzer.blogspot.com/2010/08/gop-house-members-are-setting-stage-for.html

Monday, August 2, 2010

President Barack Obama has stubbornly taken a "look forward, not backwards" philosophy to possible criminal acts during the Bush administration. But Republicans are sending signals that they will not take such an approach if they are able to win back the U.S. House of Reprsentatives in the November elections.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is strongly indicating that he will launch numerous investigations of the Obama administration if he becomes chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Issa already has raised questions about possible White House interference in U.S. Senate races in Pennsylvania and Colorado. In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Issa made it clear that aggressive investigations are coming if he replaces Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY) as chair of the Oversight Committee.

16. And you should. And Obama should too. Enough to see his self-interest and the national interest

as well in investigating known crimes committed by Republicans in office. It's good hygiene for the nation in the long run, (listen to me talk as if there was a long run!), and it's wise tactically to keep your political enemies, which they certainly are, off balance & on the defensive.

2. Write to Rep Towns and urge him to launch an investigation of Issa
Might as well head this crap off before it even has a chance to start.

Best defense is a good offense.

How's that hopey-bipartisan stuff working for you?

Bush, Cheney, Yoo, Gonzales are the ones "hope" was directed toward.

6. This is why we cannot let them retake the House.
They will proceed with their systemic destruction of our country's political institutions' capacity to function.

9. Every time the President tries to appeal to "bipartisanship" and the rest of that crap, the repukes
are rolling on the floor laughing until they wet themselves.
All they see is a sign of weakness and stupidity....
They are Lucy and The President is Charlie Brown..

17. I respect that he wants to try and
return this country to some semblance of decency and bipartisanship. I really do. I wish that it would have worked. If I were a praying woman, I'd say I prayed that his attempt to bring back a time when people worked together for the good of the country would succeed.

However, I think he grossly underestimated the vile self-centered bullshit @ssholes with whom he was dealing. This country is becoming more polarized by the day. The minute. Hell, even here on DU, the effects of entrenched "my thing" first thinking is starting to fray us. How much more the rest of the country cannot get a grip on compromise and working together.

10. It's the Clinton strategy all over again
They saw how well the Clinton strategy worked (even though it didn't seem to totally destroy his approval ratings) so they are going to do it again if they get the House back. They will throw as much crap as they can against the wall and they don't really care if any sticks. The whole point is to keep the President on the defensive and locked up in the White House. If the only thing the rightwing press will talk about is the 'next' Presidential scandal there is no way for Obama or the Democrats to get any kind of message out to the American people. That way when the 2012 elections come around no Democrat will want his help on the campaign trail and the Republicans will hit them with 'the Democrats don't stand for anything and haven't done anything' meme and the whole election campaign will be weakened.
