GOP Clashes Over Publicizing Schedules

Several House Republicans are balking at a request by their leadership to offer up a copy of their August schedules for a GOP Conference online database.

“My constituents know how to find me,” Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) said. “I’m listed in the phone book.”

GOP leaders have asked Members to submit their schedules as part of their “America Speaking Out” agenda project, but some Republicans said doing so would only create opportunities for their opponents to embarrass them.

Rep. John Campbell said Thursday that his recess calendar wasn’t finalized yet and that he had no plans to give the Conference a copy even when it is completed.

“I just don’t know why there needs to be a national advertisement of everything I’m doing,” the California Republican said.

Likewise, Rep. Mike Simpson said he would not be submitting his schedule to leadership either, in part because he felt it was not “the Conference’s business.”

2. sorry, as much as i loathe most of the congress-critters

everyone deserves a break. they publish a schedule of when and where...and people will come out of the woodwork for various reasons. let families (dem and repub) have time to themselves...

3. I recently heard they're getting 6-7 weeks off. Isn't that nice?

Maybe they could set aside a week or two for their constituents? Just a thought, seeing as how we pay them. And I don't know many people-make that anyone-who gets as much time off as these yokels.

5. If It's A Private Life They Want...

...here's hoping the voters in their districts honor their wishes.

When you're a public official, you're on the clock 24/7...even when you're on "vacation". My bets all these douchenozzles are on nice junkets on some corporate's dime; livin' the high life and laughing at the poor schmucks. Of course they don't want the voters to know this.
