A heart breaking photo. (pic)
Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 12:27 PM by obxhead
I just returned from a 10 day beach trip. 5 days in the gulf region, then 5 days on the Atlantic coast to actually enjoy the water. Of the 600 photos I got this is the one that really got to me. It's a permanent metal sign which to me states this problem will be with the gulf states for some time to come.

2. Yeah. The day I took this the water looked darker than I have
ever seen it. There were people swimming and playing in it, but I refused to get in myself. While I can't say I actually saw oil that day I can't say the water felt safe to get in.

I did however go down and support the local economy there a bit.

While the beach broke my heart, playing with long time friends was a blast at least.

5. I was visiting Sarasota the day of the blow out.
I was born and raised there so I made sure to get as many pics as possible knowing they might be the last of clean Sarasota beaches for me. :argh:

6. I think BP is implying as much.
They're saying the oil is gone and they're packing up to go home.

7. Okaloosa county is not saying it at least.
As far as BP one can't be completely sure they care either way.

8. Rich assholes that vacation in Fiji and the French Riviera
do not give a rats butt about spoiled beaches that people with lower incomes use. Nothing will really be done.
This is nothing more than a nuisance to them. They will throw money at it forever and never run out.

9. I agree. Had this happened in the Hamptons or either
of the places you mentioned the response would have been different I believe.
