Anne Rice Quits Christianity 'In the Name of Christ'

Anne Rice is famous for writing crazy books about vampires, living in a spooky house, and , strangely, being a big Christian. UPDATE: Anne Rice is no longer a Christian.

Anne announced her religious renunciation on Facebook yesterday, because why not? First, this:

(QUOTE: ) "For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being 'Christian' or to being part of Christianity. It's simply impossible for me to 'belong' to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else." ( :UNQUOTE)

Followed by this:

(QUOTE: ) As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen." ( :UNQUOTE)

There you have it. The vampire lady is no longer a Jesus lady.

7. Following the Lord of our hearts: Jesus was too free; that's why his Church-State killed him. nt

8. Your subject line says it all.
I've read some of her novels and I've read her on Facebook and there's nothing she has written that convinces me she is any less Christ-like than whoever wrote those dumbass "Left Behind" books, and she is certainly a heck of a lot more talented.

14. She always struck me as a very evolved being, so
I'm not too surprised she wasn't able to dumb down to accommodate the institutionalization of the tenets of Jesus.

There are good people all over the place, in all eras, and of all walks and backgrounds and sensibilities, and by god, there are some darned interesting vampires, too.

Rice can, in a few sentences, give me the eeriest streetscape of New Orleans, with the dank thick vapor wafting through the night streets off the river, and the imagined or fictionally real presence of the undead.

She has a lot of talent.
