Limbaugh rips Chevy Volt but cites income from GM
By Justin Hyde
Free Press Washington Staff

WASHINGTON – Radio host Rush Limbaugh tore into General Motors today over the Chevrolet Volt, while revealing he had taken advertising money from GM last year during its rescue by the Obama administration.
In his popular show, Limbaugh criticized the Volt and the $41,000 price GM revealed on Tuesday, questioning why the U.S. government needed to add a $7,500 tax credit.

“Obama and the government are admitting nobody wants this,” Limbaugh said, repeatedly referring to GM as “Obama Motors.”

But Limbaugh also seemed somewhat confused about how the Volt worked, noting once that it had a gas engine and an electric motor, but suggesting its 40-mile electric-only range was its only power source.

“That 40-mile range has to include you getting home, and staying home three to four hours to charge the thing,” Limbaugh said.

After 40 miles, the Volt’s gasoline engine kicks in, giving it about 300 additional miles of range.

2. I know that the engineers are smart enough to put regenerative
braking on most hybrids, I hope they are smart enough to put regenerative coasting, "downhill coasting" as well.

3. I heard a former elected representative who was very fiscally conservative who
said he stopped listen to Limbaugh when he heard him making fun of cars that got good mileage and their drivers. Do those losers who listen to Limbaugh actually WANT gas guzzlers? Can they afford filling those tanks?

4. His problem is there isn't an electric engine strong enough
to haul his lard-ass and pockets full of Viagra to and from the radio studio.
No way he'd buy the Tesla Roadster, it would prove him wrong.

5. So... ?? Just because they give him money means he is supposed to swing off thier nuts?
I guess we're so used to seeing our presidents and representatives bending over backwards for lobbyists that we're caught off guard when we see someone do otherwise.

8. No, but he could at least do some basic research on his
advertisers and the topics he attempts to discuss.

10. Please quit saying "300 miles of range"
That gas engine gives the car essentially unlimited range. Yes, it gets 300 miles to the tankful, but putting gas in a car takes very little time--far, far less than recharging it by plugging it into the wall. So...if I felt like getting in a Volt with a second driver, jumping on I-90 East, and going straight through to Boston, I could do it.

13. Rush said that about hybrids a decade ago, called them ALGORE cars
It seems Toyota, Ford, Honda are selling at lot of hybrid cars. Things are trending that way. Even Mercedes-Benz is working on a hybrid S-Class. (That's the big sedan)

Rush will say anything to hurt America.

14. that is 300 additional miles of range until you refill the gas tank

unless I am mistaken

I have only seen them in auto shows but they are nice vehicles and certainly would make a better statement for someone who wants to make a statement with his or her car than the Viper did 15 years ago.
