My letter to Congressman Kucinich
I wrote this yesterday as a reply to a thread about the recent vote on Kucinich's proposition. I'm more of a "reply" person than a thread starter, but there were enough kind comments suggesting I let this stand on it's own, that I'm gonna give it a try.

Dear Dennis,

I personally want to thank you for bringing this recent vote to the house floor. Even tho it probably never had a chance, at least you made the spineless go on official record with their complicity. We're going to be at war (or some likeness of it) til the coffers are drained and we can no longer borrow money to perpetuate it.

I'm supposed to revere our "leader", and remind myself of ALL he's done for us since taking office. But his dogged determination to let the MIC delude him into thinking some sort of "win" looms in the fog bank ahead simply serves to erode any respect I might have for him. I'm not a person of "faith", and I refuse to trust to such now - even where a mortal is involved. That's for the likes of Rethugs and their dieties, like Palin.

We hear about the BILLIONS that go unaccounted for in Iraq and Afghanistan. Billions - amounts I can't really wrap my head around, and yet I CAN lament that the loose change of such cash would pay off my debts and set me up for life. Billions would stop our schools from degrading even further, feed American kids and adults with gnawing hunger in their bellies, fund myriad infrastructure/maintenance programs to provide jobs and improve lives - but no. Instead with both American military and mercenary oversight - we've been swindled. Even more insulting than that is the interest we'll be paying on that lost money!
I'm not blaming this whole thing on the president, but I AM blaming him and those that voted against your proposal for blindly trusting to generals for resolutions that generals never trained for.

The real tear-jerker is that we could STOP this madness tomorrow - TODAY even. But every weak-kneed link is afraid to be the first to quit. So we just perpetuate the onward roll of a monstorous machine with no one at the wheel.

As I indicated earlier, I don't believe in some mythical savior, but IF I DID - I'd beg him to save us from ourselves.

2. Unrec'd
First, I wouldn't, for a minute, deny you your right to communicate with your government and elected officials. But, assuming you actually wanted to be taken seriously, I'd skip the rants and insults...

I'm supposed to revere our "leader", and remind myself of ALL he's done for us since taking office.

Who, precisely, is requiring you to revere anyone? I've seen plenty of criticism of President Obama, and the only times I seem to see push back is when the poster takes the step of saying he/she won't vote for him in the (highly likely) event he's the Democratic nominee.

But his dogged determination to let the MIC delude him

That's for the likes of Rethugs and their dieties

I have no doubt you feel strongly about these things. But buzzwords like this, while appropriate on a blog, are the sort of phrases I suspect will relegate your letter to the recycling box, evening in Congressman Kucinich's office.

5. No one's requiring me to do much of anything.

The one thing I AM required to do is send in my annual ante so it can be lost or squandered in a conflict I don't support - in the pursuit of killing folks I don't have hard feelings towards.

I suspect Kucinich is more about content than grammar and phraseology. If not, then I've misjudged him.
