Astounding Right-Wing Idiocy: Global Warming is Good
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 08:42 AM by marmar

from the anti-rational American Family Association:

Global warming good for penguins and for yellow-bellied marmots - oh, what to do?
Date: 7/23/2010 10:51:16 AM

It turns out that hundreds of penguins are starving to death and washing up on the beaches of Brazil. The reason? The globe appears to be cooling rather than warming.

Scientists say the leading theory is that the penguins were migrating north from Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands in search of food in warmer waters. Colder-than-normal waters have apparently hurt the populations that make up the penguins’ diet.

Where is global warming when you really need it? The penguin community right now is demanding more catastrophic global warming. They are sending out action alerts calling on energy-stingy Americans to pump more CO2 into the atmosphere. Don’t you care at all about us? they say.

Global warming has apparently caused an obesity problem among our yellow-bellied marmot friends in the Colorado Rockies. A three-decade-long study has determined that they have become heavier by about a pound each as summers have gotten warmer. They’re waking up from hibernation 21 days earlier, which gives them more time to, well, eat.

And make love. The marmot population has tripled in the last decade alone.

But scientists say the fatter marmots are also fitter - their mortality rate declined substantially over the period of the study.

Bottom line: if you are a penguin or a yellow-bellied marmot, global warming is good. Global warming is your friend. Somebody alert Al Gore, PETA, and Greenpeace. Time to crank up those coal factories, boys!

1. I would like the AFA to explain in its own words
why acknowledging global warming is inconsistent with their "family values" mission.

2. That's just sad.
We are in the midst of one of the fastest die-offs in the earth's history, and these people joke about it.

3. All winter long
All I hear from the droves of right-wingers here all winter long every year is "Wish we had some of that global warming now, it's 20 degrees outside" or "How's that global warming going? We have 6 inches of snow on the ground!"

Of course they always neglect to notice that we are under constant threat of horrific ice storms in our area in the winter, which we did not get 30-40 years ago when I was a kid. Those ice storms would have been snow back then, irritating but not nearly so destructive. But we can't look at that, fingers in ears.......

4. I see many many anecdotes of climate change around the world
Rain in the dry season in SE Asia, then drought in the rainy season. To 10 months of rain, record snow here one winter, then zero snow the next...

I wonder if there is tracking of these record weather events and totals?

10. And because it virtually never rains there at all, their storm runoff
and capture systems are, well, NONEXISTENT.
