He did it because he is a libertarian. People in the know say it will result in bad information. The head of Statistics Canada quit over this.
And really in economics, which people like Harper love, the basic assumption for all models is that "given perfect information" people will behave according to the laws of supply and demand.
Well "perfect information" includes accurate statistics on the populace. It also includes an educated workforce, good health care and no barriers to employment like transportation, etc... All things people like Steven Harper are against...proving once again that theirs is an ideology that isn't based on anything but giving rich people (who can afford market studies)better advantage in the economy so they can make lots of money. That is all it is ever about with these guys.
