COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Mike Meister got a hero's welcome Saturday as he strolled to the stage and accepted the Nebraska Democratic Party's nomination for governor.
Meister, 49, is the first Democrat to receive the governor nomination at a state convention.
He won without a floor fight and on a unanimous voice vote.
"Mike, Mike, Mike," the crowd of about 400 delegates chanted shortly after the vote.
He replaces Mark Lakers, who withdrew his candidacy after winning the nomination in the May primary.
Lakers pulled out after questions were raised about the accuracy of his campaign finance reports.
